Moguls

Training continues to go well at the water ramps for the U15 Group. There are still a lot of goals to be achieved with some athlete pushing hard by the winter to qualify back flip tuck position by the winter. Time goes fast so the athletes are pushing.

U17/19 Moguls are off to Mt. Hood for 9 days on snow. This is primarily a jumping camp but the team will certainly work on some fundamentals of skiing with drills in the morning and then some mogul skiing after jumping in the early afternoons. The training in Mt. Hood is vital for high level performances next winter and a place for athletes to work on transferring the skills they learned on water ramps this summer to snow.

Summer skiing is always fun and we look forward to a report with pictures soon!

Alpine

U16 Athletes Train at Mt. Hood
The SSWSC FIS/U16 Alpine athletes recently returned from 9 days of on snow training in Mt. Hood, Oregon to wrap up their on-snow summer training. This training camp built off the previous training camps at Copper Mountain and Winter Park. The athletes continued their work on fundamentals and tactics through a variety of course sets and on-snow learning environments. The cool nights provided for excellent training conditions in the morning and as the temperatures warmed throughout the day, the coaches(with the assistance of athletes) threw salt to help maintain the courses.

Athletes followed up their on-snow training with video review and dry-land/recovery training with the supervision of coaches. Dry land training consisted of games, agility, mobility, pool recovery workouts, and waterfall and lake hikes. Alpine athletes that participated in all of the SSWSC spring/summer training opportunities could have amassed a total of 35 days of on snow training already!

Under the leadership of SSWSC Director of Strength and Conditioning Sady Tobin and the alpine coaches, the alpine athletes are now in the midst of a very important strength and conditioning block. The Alpine athletes will measure their fitness improvements from the summer, when they retake the US Ski and Snowboard Skills Quest Fitness Assessment this September. The athletes last completed the fitness assessment in early June. Based on the consistent effort in training from the athletes, the coaches are expecting to see some big improvements in their overall fitness!
