Cross Country U14, ages 11-14

This program is designed for young skiers focused on improving their cross country skiing skills and fitness for participation at an increased competitive level. Skiers engage in fall dryland conditioning activities, develop a technical base of knowledge, and build upon skills to improve their cross country technique and competencies. Training concepts, pacing, race strategy, and technique for performance are introduced in this program. Competing is not required, but encouraged in the available opportunities through Rocky Mountain Nordic races, Steamboat Cup events, and Steamboat Nordic Race Series.

Requirements
  • Equipment: Cross Country ski equipment for Classic and Skate. Combi boots could be used.
  • Skill requirement: Prior experience recommended, but not required.
  • Passes: Youth Premium Valley Pass.
  • Competition information: Participants compete in Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN) Junior National Qualifiers, Steamboat Nordic Race Series, and Steamboat Cup Series.
  • Memberships: Participants will need a U.S. Ski & Snowboard General Membership for Rocky Mountain Nordic races. RMN membership is a required add on to the USSS membership and is automatically added on to USSS Membership Annual Fee.
  • Age: 11-14 (AGE GROUP GUIDELINES)
Schedule

Dryland Training:
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 4-6 p.m. starting September 10 at Howelsen Hill.

On-Snow Training:
Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon through March 22 at Howelsen Hill or other.

2024-2025 Program Fee

2024-2025 Program Fee: $3,295 plus $300 refundable work deposit

  • Payment Plan: SSWSC offers multiple payment options for summer, winter, and year-round program fees. Credit cards, eCheck (ACH bank transfer), cash, and checks are all accepted. We also offer a payment plan option. Find more information HERE.

  • Work Deposit Program: SSWSC requires a work deposit for each family. During the registration process, the program fee listed includes the work deposit. Families can earn back the work deposit by volunteering for SSWSC or opt out of volunteering and donate the work deposit to SSWSC. Find more information on the Work Deposit Program HERE.

  • Ride the SSWSC Bus: SSWSC offers after-school bus transportation from Steamboat Springs public schools to Howelsen Hill for SSWSC elementary and middle school athletes, 1st through 8th grades, on their scheduled training days.
