Cross Country U10/U12, ages 8-12

Cross Country U10/U12, ages 8-12

This program is designed for young skiers interested in exploring cross country ski training and racing, including basics for first-time skiers and further developing skills for those with some experience. Skiers participate in physical conditioning activities and learn the basic cross country techniques in both skate and classic through games and exploration with an emphasis on fostering a love of the sport. Competitive opportunities are available and encouraged through Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN) Races, Steamboat Cup events, and the Steamboat Nordic Race Series.

Requirements
  • Equipment: Participants will need Cross Country ski equipment both Classic and Skate. Combi boots can be used.
  • Skill requirement: No experience required.
  • Passes: Youth Valley Pass
  • Memberships: Participants will need a U.S. Ski & Snowboard General Membership for Rocky Mountain Nordic races. RMN membership is a required add on to the USSS membership and is automatically added on to USSS Membership Annual Fee.
  • Age: 8-12 (AGE GROUP GUIDELINES)
  • Competitions: Competing is not required, but we encourage participation in local races and the Rocky Mountain Nordic (RMN) Series in Colorado.
Schedule

Dryland Training:
Tuesday and Thursday, 4-5:45 p.m. starting October 8 at Howelsen Hill

On-Snow Training:
Tuesday and Thursday, 4-5:45 p.m. (Howelsen Nordic Trails)
Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon through March 15 (Howelsen Nordic Trails or the Steamboat Ski Touring Center).

*Training will transition to on-snow as soon as sufficient skiing terrain is open.

2024-2025 Program Fee

2024-2025 Program Fee: $1,925 plus $300 refundable work deposit

  • Payment Plan: SSWSC offers multiple payment options for summer, winter, and year-round program fees. Credit cards, eCheck (ACH bank transfer), cash, and checks are all accepted. We also offer a payment plan option. Find more information HERE.

  • Work Deposit Program: SSWSC requires a work deposit for each family. During the registration process, the program fee listed includes the work deposit. Families can earn back the work deposit by volunteering for SSWSC or opt out of volunteering and donate the work deposit to SSWSC. Find more information on the Work Deposit Program HERE.

  • Ride the SSWSC Bus: SSWSC offers after-school bus transportation from Steamboat Springs public schools to Howelsen Hill for SSWSC elementary and middle school athletes, 1st through 8th grades, on their scheduled training days.
