The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team continued to show impressive young talent at the third race of the 2024 Colorado High School Cycling League series Saturday in Eagle, Colorado, at the Haymaker Classic. The team secured the Division 2 title and earned the highly sought-after Spirit Award, with this week's race theme celebrating neon. The girls' team once again delivered standout performances. Freshman Sydney Soard, the current points leader, maintained her top standing with a commanding first-place finish. Allie Reznicek placed 2nd in the sophomore race, and Whitney Warnke took 3rd in the JV race.
Steamboat Springs Winter Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club announced today 25 athletes and alumni have been named to U.S. National Teams. Six current SSWSC athletes and 19 SSWSC alumni were named to alpine, cross country, freeski, freestyle/moguls, ski jumping, nordic combined, snowboard halfpipe, snowboard cross, and teams. SSWSC is the only club in the nation with athletes named to all seven national teams.
SSWSC moguls athlete Scotty Kane is exploring aerial skiing and embracing the full meaning of freestyle. Having been invited to Project Gold, extended to the top finishers at last season's Junior National Championships, Scotty is currently in Lake Placid, NY with other up and coming aerial skiers.
Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club hosted the Rocky Mountain All-Stars Friday, September 6 - Sunday, September 8. It was a jam-packed weekend of water ramping, physical testing, and education for the top 25 mogul skiers in the state of Colorado. Fine-tuning their jumping in preparation for getting back on snow, the athletes ramped with visiting aerial coaches, Rocky Mountain Division coaches, FIS (International Federation of Skiing) judges, a physical therapist, a nutritionist, and a yoga instructor. Representing Team_Steam were Mia Satkiewicz, Liam Siefken and Anabel Ayad.
Mary McLarnon won the varsity category, Whitney Warnke was second place for junior varsity, Allie Reznicek was first place for the sophomore girls, and Sydney Soard won again for the freshman girls. Other notable results include Thomas Agosta in 8th in varsity boys, Jesse Weaver in 5th junior varsity girls, Lindsay Berke in 10th for sophomore girls, Schuyler Biglow in 5th and Oscar Liban in 9th for sophomore boys, Lucia Magnotta 4th in the freshman girls category, and Robbie Wodnik 4th, Odin Gruben 5th, Quinn Dressen 6th and Caleb Walker 9th in freshman boys.
