Alpine

Alpine Racing U12, ages 10-12

This program is for kids who are interested in alpine racing and for kids who just want to work on their fundamental skiing skills using racing to teach those skills at a high level. Training includes skiing bumps, powder, trees, jumps, gates and steeps, equipment preparation and more. The 3-day program is great for skiers who are trying it out and the 4-day program is ideal for motivated skiers who want more training and competition opportunities. The difference between the programs is not ability based, but the desired commitment level of the athlete. All skiers participate in the local Steamboat Cup Series with 3-day athletes targeting the local Steamboat races and 4-day athletes targeting the Bolle Age Class races within the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Rocky Mountain Division. Both 3-day and 4-day athletes will all work together as one cohesive U12 team.  Athletes participating in fall sports do not need to attend dryland training that is in conflict with their practice schedule, but dryland is highly encouraged for all others. The U12 Ski Meisters and U12 Ski & Jump programs are options that include ski jumping and cross country skiing for a complete skiing skill set! Jumping and cross country training goes through at least March 11.

Minimum skiing requirement: Comfortable on blue and black runs

Equipment requirements: Slalom skis, properly fitted junior ski boots, helmet, and goggles with UV lenses. GS skis, speed suit, slalom pole guards, shin guards and goggles with clear/night lenses recommended.

Season pass information: Must have ski passes to Howelsen Hill and to Steamboat Ski Resort - full Ikon pass recommended.

Competition information: Skiers compete in the RMD Age Class Series and RMD U12 Finale

Licensing requirements: U.S. Ski & Snowboard alpine membership required for RMD Age Class races.

NOTE: For competitions, the U12 age group is all athletes born in 2011 and 2012.
