Freeskiing Junior Team Full Time, grades 7-8

Freeskiing Junior Team Full Time is designed for the competitively driven freeskiing athlete interested in regional competition. It is targeted at the phase 3 development level of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Training System. Coaching will be geared toward freeskiing skill development across the entire mountain, including terrain parks, halfpipe, and big mountain, generally splitting time 40/60 between the competitive venue and out-of-venue. Cross-training activities will include trampoline and conditioning. Travel will be offered for training camps and competitions. This program is for 7th and 8th graders.

  • Skill requirement: Desire and ability to ski black runs, to improve skills and to improve in all areas of skiing, including slopestyle, halfpipe, and big mountain skills. Contact Andy Michnay (email) for details.
  • Equipment: Alpine skiing or telemark equipment and a helmet. *Back protector required for IFSA competitions and recommended for training and USASA but not required.
  • Passes: Full IKON and Howelsen Hill pass required.
  • Competition information: Athletes will participate in regional and national level USASA and/or IFSA events. If competing in both IFSA and USASA competitions/travel will be limited.
  • Memberships: A USASA license is required for USASA slopestyle and halfpipe competitions, and an IFSA membership is required for all Big Mountain events.
  • Age: Grades 7-8 (AGE GROUP GUIDELINES)

Dryland: October 9–November 7
Wednesday and Thursday, 4-5:30 p.m. at Howelsen Hill for field workout or Bald Eagle Lake for Trampoline/Field Workout (If weather is poor we will have at least one team-building activity throughout the week indoors).

On-Snow: December 3 – March 29 (if qualified for Nor-Ams we will train until the competition)
Tuesday, 4:15-6 p.m. on snow and 6-7 p.m. in gym at Howelsen Hill
Wednesday, 4:15-6:15 p.m. at Howelsen Hill
Friday, 4:15-6:15 p.m. at Howelsen Hill until December 9, then 5:30-7:30pm at Steamboat Resort starting December 13
Saturday, 8:15 a.m.-2 p.m. at Steamboat Resort
*No training December 23 - January 2.
**Training Camps may be offered during breaks

2024-2025 Program Fee: $4,500 plus $450 refundable work deposit

  • Payment Plan: SSWSC offers multiple payment options for summer, winter, and year-round program fees. Credit cards, eCheck (ACH bank transfer), cash, and checks are all accepted. We also offer a payment plan option. Find more information HERE.

  • Work Deposit Program: SSWSC requires a work deposit for each family. During the registration process, the program fee listed includes the work deposit. Families can earn back the work deposit by volunteering for SSWSC or opt out of volunteering and donate the work deposit to SSWSC. Find more information on the Work Deposit Program HERE.

  • Ride the SSWSC Bus: SSWSC offers after-school bus transportation from Steamboat Springs public schools to Howelsen Hill for SSWSC elementary and middle school athletes, 1st through 8th grades, on their scheduled training days.
