U16 Alpine Team Athlete Caley Goforth Wins Super G Races in Aspen
It was an exciting week of speed races for the SSWSC U16 alpine team. For a few, it was their first downhill event, and for everyone competing, it was a fantastic discovery of mental toughness, courage, and confidence.  As with all downhill races, it is required for athletes to be able to participate in at least one training run before participating in the race. With every run, the U16 alpine team pushed the limits and tested their abilities to handle faster speeds and a tighter line down the race track.  At the end of the event, which consisted of two Downhill races and two super G, Caley Goforth took home two medals after winning both super G races. Rewani Shrestha had a solid week with three top 15 finishes, and so did Bella Fisher with four top 15s. Naia Broggi performed admirably and finished 37th and 40th in the super G races.

On the men’s side, Matthew Kafka finished with a solid 6th place in the second Super G race, Schuyler Biglow finished with two top 15 results in the downhill races, Leo Orton took home three top 20s, Koda Kiser finished 14th in one of the downhill races and two top 20s in the Super G races, Wilson Walker’s best result was a 21st place in the second downhill race and three top 25s, and Pthalo Plomteux finished strong with a 26th and 28th place in downhill, and 36th in Super G.

Next up, the team will compete on their home hill this weekend with two slalom races and one giant slalom, starting with the women this Friday, January 26.
