SSWSC Women Athletes Sweep U19 Podium on Home Mountain Moguls Competition in Steamboat
Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club hosted the first competition in the Rocky Mountain Freestyle Series this past weekend, January 6-7, on Voodoo on Steamboat Ski Resort. Competitors from all over the United States came to compete, with over 100 competitors from Stratton, Killington, Northstar, Park City, Aspen, Telluride, Vail, Winter Park, Team Summit, and Steamboat. Despite over a foot of new snow on the singles comp day, the Voodoo course held up well and provided a challenging but soft venue for the mogul skiers.

SSWSC had three competitors who were new to the Comp Series level. Congratulations to Griffin Harvey, Lyllah Miller, and Gigi Lobeck for their amazing training efforts, allowing them to lay down solid top-to-bottom competitive runs. Lyllah ended up 4th in the U15 age group.

SSWSC’s Abby McLarnon won the single moguls event with a blistering run, winning by nearly five points. Olivia Maurais from Winter Park took the Silver, and SSWSC’s Anabel Ayad took the bronze. A huge congrats to SSWSC athlete Mia Satkiewicz for her career-best 4th-place finish and Izzy Powell, who ended the day in 10th place. SSWSC women swept the U19 women’s podium, with McLarnon, Ayad, and Satkiewicz taking the top spots.

After winning the first run, SSWSC’s Jackson True ended the day in 2nd place with his fast, aggressive, big air runs. Xander Tatar-Brown ended up in 5th place, and Liam Siefken was 13th—very solid showings from all three men.

On Sunday, SSWSC athletes had many head-to-head duals against teammates which is always tough. Anabel Ayad ended the day in 3rd place, with Mia Satkiewicz 7th and Izzy Powell 8th. Jackson True was 2nd, Xander Tatar-Brown 7th, and Liam Siefken 8th.

The next competition in the Rocky Mountain Freestyle Series is in Aspen.
