Twenty-four Ski Jump Nordic Combined Athletes Take On Western Regional Championships

Twenty-four Ski Jump Nordic Combined Athletes Take On Western Regional Championships
The Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Team just returned from the final competition of the season last weekend. Twenty-four eager athletes, U10 through U16, made the trip to Park City, Utah for the 2024 Western Regional Championships that were held under blue skies and perfect spring conditions.

In the U10 competition, George Maul took top honors in jumping and then skied up with U12s in nordic combined, finishing 4th. Carter Foss finished 4th in jumping and 2nd in NC, and our rookies, at their first away competition Rhodes Roberts and Rocky Moore surprised everyone, finishing 6th and 12th respectively on the jump. For the U10 girls, Hazel Keller, McKenna McCarthy, and Arbor Van Wyk finished 4th, 5th and 8th respectively. In NC, Keller finished 3rd, and Van Wyk 4th.

Our U12 athletes showed their dominance in both jumping and nordic combined, with the boys taking the top eight spots in a tight jumping event, led by Langdon Devon, George Maul (U10), and Theo Givnish. They also took 2nd through 9th in NC, with Luke Mathey getting the silver and moving all the way up from seventh after the jump. Theo Givnish and George Maul were 3rd and 4th. Clara Keller was 2nd and Valentina Broggi 3rd in the girls jumping, and then Keller and Broggi were joined on the podium by Nova Lake Van Wyk to sweep the girl’s nordic combined event.

The U14 team was just as strong, with Nico Bowdre and Theo Maul on the podium, finishing 2nd and 3rd, followed closely by eleven more SSWSC jumpers in the top 19. For NC, Langdon Devon, Arthur Keller, Connor VanOveren, and Luke Hodge finished 2nd through 5th, respectively. Valentina Broggi brought home the silver in a stylish performance on the jump.

On the large hills, Arthur Tirone easily won both the jumping and nordic combined events for the U16s and took the silver on the HS100 in the U20 class. Nico Bowdre jumped to 4th in the U16 event and Miles Warnke had a breakthrough weekend, finishing 8th in U16 jumping and then blowing doors on the XC to finish 3rd in NC for his first podium of his young career.

All in all, the 2024 Western Regional Championships were a great way to round out our season. The weather couldn’t have been better, and our athletes once again showed how to finish strong after a great winter season of training and events. Next year, the WRC’s will rotate back to Steamboat in early March.
