Snowboard Athlete Walker Overstake Brings Home Silver Medal at Snowboard Alpine World Junior Championships
Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club snowboard athlete Walker Overstake brought home the silver medal for Team USA along with teammate Grace Domino from Minnesota in the mixed team parallel slalom event at the 2024 Snowboard Alpine Junior World Championships in Lachtal, Austria, on March 24, 2024. Germany won, USA was second, and Italy took the bronze. Five snowboard athletes from SSWSC competed at the Snowboard Junior World Championships— Walker Overstake, Mike Smith, Nick Pierce, Sam Carpenter, and Linda Jechova. Taggert Carr qualified but did not compete due to injury.
SSWSC also athletes came home with multiple top twenty results in Junior World Championship events. In the Parallel Giant Slalom Walker Overstake was 14th, and Mike Smith was 18th. In the Parallel Slalom, Mike Smith was 17th. Grace Domino, who trained with SSWSC athletes weeks before Junior Worlds, was 15th in the Parallel Slalom.
