Moguls Team Takes on the NorAm Circuit

Moguls Team Takes on the NorAm Circuit
First stop in the Great White North was Apex Mountain in British Columbia, Canada. Good skiing by all on a relatively easy course where athlete has to really do something special to stand out. In singles, Xander Tatar-Brown finished in 35th and Jackson True ended the day in 36th. For the ladies, Anabel Ayad placed 10th, Izzy Powell was 25th and Claire Boyle was 44th. In Duals, Anabel Ayad was 7th, Izzy Powell was 30th and Claire Boyle was 39. Jackson True finished in 41st and Xander Tatar-Brown finished 56th.

The next stop was Val St. Come, the third stop on the NorAm tour and it was, according to the coaches, “I guess the best word would be interesting.” On day one of training the team woke up to 4” of new snow and the course was skiing pretty well and Team Steam dialed in their lines. On day two temps flirted with high 40s and low 30s and the course slushed up and skied well but different from day one. Athletes all made some minor changes and skied solid the top-to-bottoms they wanted. That night we hit a low of -15 Fahrenheit and showed up to a course that was a solid frozen tundra.  The high that day was 12 so it never softened up, but it was comp day so let’s go. The kids were pushed to their brink but did not back down. Though some did not ski the run they wanted, others skied their best. Jackson True skiing late in the order had a great T2B and missed out on finals by a few spots. On the women’s side, both Izzy Powell and Anabel Ayad made final 1, top 16. (Izzy 11th Anabel 4th)  both lit up their F1 runs Izzy having a personal best and finishing the day in 7th, one away from final 2, Anabel qualified 3rd in F1 and unfortunately walked out of her ski after top air and didn’t have the run that she wanted, ending the day in 6th. In the end, both girls were stoked with skiing their first ever under-the-light event, realizing that the dream of skiing Deer Valley WC under the lights can be more of a reality. Go Team Steam!!
