Young Snowboarders Stomp Snowboard Cross Races at Copper Mountain

SSWSC young snowboarders took the snowboard cross by storm at Copper Mountain, January 31-February 2. The course was short, fast, and technical. The start was manageable and fun, keeping athletes neck and neck through the first turn. This tight pinch point often decided the race—unless athletes fought hard from the back to find a good line and make a pass. SSWSC Snowboard had the largest presence, with a volunteer commenting, “SSWSC always shows up and dominates this weekend. It’s so fun to witness. The final medal count was 13 golds, 11 silvers, and 7 bronzes.

Steamboat Hosts Ski Town U.S.A. Moguls Comp

SSWSC and Steamboat Resort hosted the Ski Town USA Moguls Competition for Rocky Mountain Freestyle February 8-9, 2026. Ninety-six athletes competed from Colorado and Utah. With 50-degree days and 20-degree nights, Voodoo saw rock-hard conditions in the morning and soft, practically slushy conditions for 2nd run. Thanks to many landing choppers, the course stayed in reasonable shape for the duration of the event.

Cross Country Ski Team Dominates Podiums at DU Invite / Rocky Mountain Junior National Qualifier

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Cross Country Ski Team delivered outstanding performances at the DU Invite and Rocky Mountain Junior National Qualifier in Frisco this past weekend February 6-9, highlighted by dominant podium finishes in Friday’s classic mass start races and continued success in Sunday’s freestyle individual start events. U16 men swept the podium on both race days and multiple podium finishes in other races.

Freeride Team Takes Multiple Podium Spots at IFSA in Copper Mountain

SSWSC Freeride Team went to Copper Mountain this week, February 3 and 4, 202,6 for the Copper Mountain IFSA Comp 2*. On February 3, Skyler Davison took 2nd place in the women’s U19 division and skier Milly Grover took 3rd place in the women’s U15 category. On February 4, Reagan Farrell was 3rd.<br />

Strong Weekend for Freeride Team in Jackson Hole

The Freeride Team went up to Jackson Hole, Wyoming January 28-February 1, for the Jackson Hole 3* IFSA, featuring a stacked field and challenging conditions. Our athletes showed grit, adaptability, and competitive composure on a demanding venue. The U15 Team had standout results with a 3rd place finish for Paddock Whitten and a 5th place finish for Liza Stone.

Snowboard Team Shows Intention and Positivity with Tough Conditions at Slopestyle in Copper

On January 25, the snowboard team competed at Copper Mountain for the first USASA Slopestyle event of the year, facing freezing temperatures, strong winds, and falling snow. All eight SSWSC athletes showed great intention and positivity while navigating less-than-ideal conditions that didn't quite allow them to show their best riding.

Hard Work and Dedication Pay Off at Rocky Mountain Freestyle RQS and DEVO Comps in Steamboat

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club hosted the Rocky Mountain Freestyle DEVO and RQS competitions on our home turf January 24 and 25. With a new course location on Head Wall, the event drew great exposure and sparked curiosity as passing skiers stopped to spectate and enjoy the impressive skiing showcased by all athletes.

Cross Country Ski Team has Multiple Podiums at Soldier Hollow Super JNQ

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club cross country ski team traveled to Soldier Hollow, Utah, Jan. 22–25, to compete in the Super Junior National Qualifier and RMISA collegiate races. The event, the largest junior cross country ski race in the country, featured more than 700 competitors and served as a Junior National Qualifier for athletes from the Rocky Mountain, Far West, Intermountain, High Plains, and Pacific Northwest divisions.

Snowboard Race Athletes Battle Icy Conditions at Afton Alps in Race to the Cup NorAm Series

Six athletes from the SSWSC competed in the first Race to the Cup in Afton Alps, Minnesota—Brionie Wakooli, Mia Chawner, Sydney Wilson, Nathalia Dos Reis Monteiro, Rowan Hanaughan, and Abe Cronkhite—competed in the two-day, three-race series. Given the demanding conditions, Coach Thedo advised the athletes to stay upright and focus on finishing their runs, noting that simply completing each race could lead to strong results.

Men Sweep U15 Snowboard Podium at IFSA Steamboat

On Friday, January 16, SSWSC Snowboard athletes competed on the East Face at Steamboat Resort in a challenging and exciting big mountain event. Low snowfall this season gave the venue a dramatically different look, with more exposed terrain and visible features than ever before. These conditions demanded smart line choices and creative riding, raising the level of competition across the board. A total of 18 athletes from four programs represented SSWSC, and according to Tony Lodico, this marked the highest number of snowboard competitors he has ever seen at this event.

Moguls Team Takes on Course at Aspen Highlands

TeamSteam spent their MLK weekend at Aspen Highlands, attacking the steep and icy Thunderbowl Mogul Course. Hit with rain over the New Year and then cold temperatures, the usually challenging course was even more challenging this season with a rock solid top air landing that required pick axes and chain saws to break through the ice. Knowing everyone has to ski the same course, SSWSC athletes kept their focus, took their skiing back to basics, and achieved some strong results.

Nine Alumni Athletes will Represent Team USA at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is proud to announce that nine alumni athletes will represent Team USA at the 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic Winter Games, Feb. 6-22, 2026. Jaelin Kauf, Olivia Giaccio, Landon Wendler, Riley Jacobs, Maddy Schaffrick, Cody Winters, Niklas Malicinski, Annika Belshaw, and Jason Colby. Six athletes are first-time Olympians, bringing the total number of SSWSC Olympians to 106.
