The Freeski Team took eight athletes from the SSWSC and two athletes from outside the club who joined the group to compete in the slopestyle at Aspen Snowmass USASA Series — Snowmass Slopestyle, Feb. 22. The team went down Saturday morning to train on the course all day before the competition Sunday.
George Maul competed in the 9-10 age group. He had a great run with a right 540, switch 540 and left cork 7 and finished second.
Three athletes competed in the 11-12 age group: Albee Lodico, Jackek Bushek and Camilo Castro. This was the second slopestyle contest for all of these athletes.
Three athletes in the 13-14 age group competed, including the athletes from outside the club. Unfortunately, Skai Knapp and Nolan Lopez couldn’t get a full, clean run. Nolan had a revert on his last jump, and Skai had a very sketchy second jump. Theo Maul had a super clean run with a switch right 360 safety, switch left 540 and cork 7 tail and finished fourth. James Zarlengo (from Steamboat, but trains with Vail) got first place, and Henry Stubbe (from Crested Butte) got fifth place.
Cooper Kaeding was our one athlete in the 15-16 age group. His first competition run was the best jump line he put together the whole trip.
