Five Athletes Represent RMD at the Cross Country National U16 Camp

Five of the six athletes representing the Rocky Mountain Division at the Cross Country National U16 Camp this summer came from SSWSC’s U16/18 program: Georgia Bishop, Lylah Keller, Sawyer Landers, Conor Devin, and Bode Rhodes. The camp, held at Paul Smith’s College in Lake Placid, NY, brought together 41 of the top U16 athletes from across the country for a week of training, competition, learning, and plenty of fun.

Tig Loomis Attends NDG Cross Country Ski Camp

Tig Loomis attended the National Development Group training camp this month. She is a member of the SSWSC U16/U18/U20 Cross Country ski team and qualified for the NDG camp after her results during the 2025-2026 season. She is currently one of the top development U18/U20 athletes in the country.

Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Team Returns from EuroCamp

The SSWSC ski jumping and nordic combined team recently returned from their annual EuroCamp, a high-level training experience that took athletes across three countries: Slovenia, Austria, and Italy. Over the course of the camp, our athletes completed 13 jump sessions across four venues throughout the Alps, providing a concentrated dose of training and competitive experience at the conclusion of a long summer season.

High School Mountain Bike Team Bike Wash Huge Success at Emerald Mountain Epic

The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team hosted a hugely successful bike wash fundraiser at last weekend's Emerald Mountain Epic, and the team's hard work paid off. With trail conditions leaving bikes coated with dust and dirt, riders were more than ready for a good scrub, and the team delivered, washing an estimated 150 to 200 bikes over the course of the day. Athletes and parents tackled the extra-dirty conditions all day, and riders coming off the course were quick to express their appreciation.

Alpine Team Returns from Multifaceted Switzerland Training Camp

The Alpine Team just wrapped up the Switzerland Camp and Alpine Program Director Tyler Shepherd reflected on what he called one of the best camps he's had the privilege to be part of. "The energy, focus, and camaraderie displayed by our athletes over the past few weeks made this trip unforgettable," Shepherd said, adding that the coaching staff could not be more thrilled with the progress seen across the board.

Senior Mountain Bike Team Challenges Themselves on Crested Butte Trip

The Senior Mountain Bike Team had an awesome team training camp in Crested Butte, July 20-24, packing in the miles and challenging themselves on some of Colorado's most iconic trails. Riders split their time between downhill laps in the bike park and cross country adventures, giving everyone a chance to build new skills, step outside their comfort zones, and try terrain they hadn't ridden before. From technical descents to big climbs, the team embraced every challenge with great attitudes.

SSWSC Welcomes Samantha Bowen as Director of Development

SSWSC is pleased to announce that Samantha Bowen will join the organization as Director of Development beginning Monday, August 3. Bowen brings a unique combination of firsthand experience in winter sports and a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising. She earned a Master of Science degree in Physical Activity in Public Health and was both a freestyle skier and coach at Gould Academy. Throughout her career, she has worked with nonprofit organizations dedicated to physical activity, healthy eating, and expanding access to healthy lifestyles. Most recently, she led resource development, donor stewardship, and fundraising events for Playworks in Denver, Colorado, a regional office of the national nonprofit organization.

Moguls Athletes Lucy Gray and Max Marrs Attend Project Gold 2026

July 25 and 26, Lucy Gray and Max Marrs traveled to Park City with their coach, Sas Fawcett, to attend the Moguls Project Gold Camp. Project Gold Camps are run by US Ski & Snowboard and are designed to provide progressive training opportunities for elite-level freestyle mogul athletes, helping develop the next generation of high-performance skiers.

SSWSC Coaches Olympic Weightlifting Education

This year’s Olympic Weightlifting Education was a continuation of the basics and practical application led by SSWSC Senior Performance Coach Jeff Thomsen. The session focused on building a practical understanding of how Olympic Weightlifting movements and their progressions can be used within long-term athlete development and snow sport performance. My personal favorite part was seeing how each coach started to consider how they could implement or take key movements and truly apply them to their sessions and sport.

Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Athletes Shine at the 27th Annual Springer Tournee

From July 7–11, 2026, 25 Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined athletes from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, ranging in age from 7 to 18, headed to Park City, Utah, for the 27th Annual Jindro Mayer Springer Tournee. Accompanied by coaches Karl Denney, Decker Dean, Kristen Van Wyk, and Todd Wilson, our athletes represented one-third of the 75 total participants gathered for this hallmark summer event!

SSWSC Names Linda Curzon Youth Program Director and Thanks Ali Givnish

We are excited to announce that longtime SSWSC youth coach Linda Curzon has been named Youth Winter Program Director. Linda has already begun meeting with outgoing program director Ali Givnish, who is helping Linda get up to speed for a smooth transition, and will step into the role full-time beginning August 17, 2026. Linda has been involved with SSWSC youth programs since 1997. She served as U8 Head Coach for many years and was instrumental in developing the Junior Coach Program. With a ski racing background, U.S. Ski & Snowboard Level 100 Coach certification, and PSIA Level 3 Instructor certification, Linda brings deep knowledge of skiing fundamentals, athlete development, and youth mentorship to this role.
