Howelsen Hill

Howelsen Hill is home to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Located in the heart of downtown Steamboat, Howelsen Hill has been continuously operating since 1915 and has the largest and most complete natural ski jumping complex in North America. It is acknowledged as a “Pioneer Ski Resort” by the International Skiing History Association and the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum and Hall of Fame. Howelsen Hill has a lighted training venue with two year-round ski jumps, alpine race terrain, a terrain park, cross country trails, a freestyle mogul course, beginner area, and space for an airbag for freeski and snowboard athletes that makes it one of the most unique training facilities in the country. There are two lifts, one chairlift and one poma that serve the mountain and one magic carpet with terrain maintained by City of Steamboat Springs and Parks, Open Space, and Recreation Department.

Steamboat Ski Resort is one of the premier ski destinations in North America, known for its legendary “Champagne Powder®” snow. The resort offers skiing and snowboarding across more 3,700 skiable acres, making it one of the largest ski resorts in Colorado, with terrain ranging from wide beginner groomers to challenging glades, steeps, terrain parks, and mogul runs, the perfect training ground for young athletes.

On the All Out race trail, SSWSC has a dedicated alpine race venue, the SSWSC Stevens Family Alpine Venue, which includes the Tracey Family Start House. Steamboat Resort also maintains the Maverick’s Halfpipe and the Travis Mayer Mogul Course on Voodoo for use as athletic training venues.

Water Ramps and Trampoline Facility

For more than 20 years, the current water ramp facility made possible by the MacArthur family has been a cornerstone of freestyle athlete development in the Rocky Mountain Division (RMD). It has contributed directly to success at the state, national, and international levels. This facility will permanently close after summer 2026 to make way for residential development.

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is developing a new water ramp and trampoline training facility to replace the current site, which will close after summer 2026. SSWSC is working with Steamboat Resort to build a replacement facility in the Voodoo complex. Permit applications are in process. The new facility will include water ramps and in-ground trampolines designed to safely train aerial skills and support year-round athlete development.

Sports Performance Centers

SSWSC operates two strength and conditioning training venues, one at Howelsen Hill and the other at the base of Steamboat Ski Resort. Both venues offer unique, varied year-round training opportunities close to the training venues and local schools.

David DeHaven Strength Center

The David L. DeHaven Strength Center is the primary off-snow athletic training facility operated by SSWSC. It’s located at the base of Howelsen Hill in Steamboat Springs and serves as the year-round strength and conditioning center.

Liman Mountain Center

A generous donation from Les and Linda Liman/Twin Enviro Services funded the purchase of the SSWSC Liman Mountain Center (LMC) at the base of Steamboat Ski Resort in the Torian Plum Building. The purchase of the LMC filled a longstanding need strategically and operationally to have dedicated space to support our extensive program operations, training, and instruction at Steamboat Ski Resort. SSWSC Liman Mountain Center is a huge benefit to athletes, coaches, and programs, offering a space for pre- and post-training sessions at the base of Steamboat Ski Resort.

Big Blue Bus

SSWSC offers bus transportation for SSWSC athletes from Steamboat Springs public schools to Howelsen Hill through a generous grant from the Lennox Foundation and with the guidance and support of George and Barbara Eidsness, Transwest Truck Trailer RV.

The SSWSC bus provides transportation after school from the Strawberry Park campus to the front door of the Howelsen Hill Lodge on school days. Students at Soda Creek and Sleeping Giant take a school district bus from their campus to Strawberry Park, and then load the SSWSC bus at Strawberry Park.

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is a recognized U.S. Ski & Snowboard High Performance Center, a partnership program open to Gold and Silver-level clubs across the U.S. The program allows ski and snowboard clubs and their athletes to collaborate with clubs from across the country to elevate athlete development. The goal is to create a developmental pathway for aspiring athletes aiming to reach the highest level.
