Three Snowboard Athletes are Named to 2026 FIS Junior World Championship Team

Two current athletes and one alumni from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club were named to the 2026 FIS Junior World Championships U.S. Snowboard Alpine team. The event will take place in Folgaria, Italy, March 25-29, 2026. Events include parallel giant slalom, parallel slalom, and mixed team. Brionie Wakooli was named to the women’s team, and Rowan Hanaughan and alumni Walker Overstake were named to the men's team.

Girls Snowboard Day at Copper Mountain

Nine girls from the Snowboard Devo Team headed to Copper Mountain for a special girls day with athletes from Team Summit. Team Summit brought giant bubble wands, we added glitter to our faces, and the girls picked out stickers from Coach Maddie’s impressive collection. We sought out rock drops and side hits, blew bubbles all over the mountain, and enjoyed some snow cones (thankful for some fresh snow!)

Moguls Team Athletes Earn Career-Best Finishes and Women’s Sweep U17 Podium at Summit Open

Moguls Team (TeamSteam) traveled to Copper Mountain to compete in the Rocky Mountain Freestyle Comp Series Summit Open, held Feb. 20–22, 2026, on the Ore Deal course. SSWSC athletes earned career-best finishes, U17 Women swept the single podium and Sydney Soard finished 2nd overall.

Alpine Snowboard Team Posts Podium and Top-10 Finishes at Race to the Cup Series Comps

The Alpine Snowboard Team earned podium and top-10 finishes at Alpine Ski Club, Val Saint-Côme and Holiday Valley in Race to the Cup Series. Sydney Wilson capped a breakout season by finishing fifth overall in the Race to the Cup North American Cup series.

A U10 Story of Kindness and Teamwork

This season, Donoban Fuentes joined the U10 Alpine program as a member of Integrated Community. He is supported by his dedicated partner, Marissa Holmes, whose commitment to Donoban’s development and well-being has been instrumental in helping him thrive and feel connected within the Steamboat community. Marissa ensures Donoban is present at training three days a week, and her ongoing support has played a significant role in his growth both on and off the hill.

Freeski Team Takes on Aspen Snowmass USASA Series Snowmass Slopestyle

The Freeski Team took eight athletes from the SSWSC and two athletes from outside the club, who joined the group, to compete in the slopestyle at Aspen Snowmass USASA Series Snowmass Slopestyle, Feb. 22. The team went down Saturday morning to train on the course all day before the competition Sunday.

Thirteen SSWSC Alumni and Current Athletes will Compete in 2026 Junior World Championships

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club has announced that 13 alumni and current athletes have qualified to compete in the Junior World Championships in their disciplines, Logan Grosidier (alpine), Jeremy Nolting (alpine), Grey Barbier, (cross country), Jason Colby (ski jumping) Sawyer Graves (ski jumping), Arthur Tirone (ski jumping), and Piper Mouttet (ski jumping), Haley Brabec (nordic combined), Ethan Maines (nordic combined), Walker Overstake (snowboarding), Rowan Hanaughan (snowboard), Brionie Wakooli (snowboard), and Tristan Thrasher (biathlon). The Junior World Championships in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, ski jumping, biathlon, and Nordic Combined begin next week in Norway, Italy, and Germany.

Exciting Day at Howelsen Hill during USASA Rocky Mountain Series Slalom and Giant Slalom

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club hosted the USASA Rocky Mountain Series Slalom and Giant Slalom races at Howelsen Hill on February 14, and it was a perfect day to be away from the holiday crowds at Steamboat Resort and instead over at quiet Howelsen Hill, soaking up sunny, warm conditions. We kicked things off with two individual Giant Slalom races, with Thedo Remmelink setting a strong course with help from the ProAm Alpine Race Team and Jr Team’s Phineas Walters.

The U16 Alpine Team wrapped up its final Rocky/Central U16 Championship qualifiers Feb. 12-15 in Vail, Colorado, competing in two slalom and two giant slalom races per gender. With challenging conditions and demanding course sets, the weekend delivered exactly what championship prep should: tough competition, valuable lessons, and measurable growth.

Steamboat Girls Shine at the IFSA Rippin’ Ladies Junior 2* in Telluride

Freeride athletes traveled to Telluride for the IFSA (International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association) Rippin’ Ladies Junior 2* on February 8—an all-girls big mountain competition featuring divisions in U12, U15, U19, and Adult. This unique event created an encouraging and empowering environment where our athletes could push themselves in a less intimidating, all-female setting. One of the highlights of the weekend was the opportunity for our juniors to watch the adult competitors ski the very same venue. Seeing strong, confident women charge the mountain provided powerful inspiration and a glimpse of what’s possible in the years ahead.

The U16 Alpine Team lit up Howelsen Hill with a weekend of fast-paced slalom action, hosting a thrilling night race on January 30 followed by a daytime showdown on Janauary 31 during the Sync Cup Slalom races in Steamboat. With crisp winter conditions and a lively home crowd, it was the perfect setting for two days of high-energy competition.
