Freeski Team Shines at USASA Competitions at Home in Steamboat

The Steamboat Freeski Team competed in three USASA competitions at Steamboat last weekend, March 7–8.

The first event was the halfpipe competition on Saturday. SSWSC had five athletes competing. Otto and Niko Evans took 1st and 2nd, respectively (the only athletes in the 7–8 category). Jacek Bushek and Albee Lodico competed in 11–12. Albee took 4th and Jacek took 3rd—his first USASA podium! Cooper Kaeding took 1st in the 15–16 category, his first USASA win!

Saturday night was the Rail Jam. SSWSC had six athletes compete in this event. Cortland Parfet was the only 9–10 athlete from SSWSC and took home 2nd in his first-ever USASA competition! Albee Lodico and Jacek Bushek got 9th and 11th respectively in 11–12. Nolan Lopez got 1st place for 13–14, his first USASA win. Liam Hendricks finished 8th in 13–14, and Cooper Kaeding got 5th in 15–16.

Sunday was the Slopestyle competition. Otto and Niko Evans again took 1st and 2nd, respectively, in the 7–8 category. Theo Maul, Liam Ferrell, Cortland Parfet, and Evan Lopez competed in 9–10. George Maul got 1st place (his first win of the season), and Liam Ferrell got 3rd in his first USASA event! Cortland finished 6th and Evan 7th.

Kellen O’Connell (9th), Taylor Montgomery (12th), Wyatt Klohr (16th), Rowan Brummond (17th), Albee Lodico (19th), Camilo Castro (20th), and Jacek Bushek (23rd) all competed in a huge and competitive 11–12 field.

In 13–14, Theo Maul took 1st (his first win of the season)! Nolan Lopez got 4th, Skai Knapp got 5th, Jackson Koermer took 8th, and Liam Hendricks took 10th. Cooper Kaeding got 3rd in the 15–16 category!

After these results, Nolan Lopez was named the Regional Champion for 13–14 in both Slopestyle and Rail Jam. George Maul is the Regional Champion for 9–10 Slopestyle!
