Steamboat Athletes and Rocky Mountain Division Dominate 2026 Junior Championships

The 2026 Junior Championships for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined concluded on a high note last week in Steamboat Springs, as the Rocky Mountain Division (RMD) successfully hosted the event despite rapidly deteriorating snow conditions. Fielding a team of 19 (23 qualified) athletes, all from Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, RMD delivered an exceptional performance on home snow. The team captured 16 of the 37 medals awarded, including an impressive 11 of 14 gold medals.

Freeski Team Shines at USASA Competitions at Home in Steamboat

The Steamboat Freeski Team competed in three USASA competitions at Steamboat last weekend, March 7–8. The halfpipe competition was on Saturday during the day with a Rail Jam under the lights on Saturday night. Sunday was the slopestyle competition. Athletes brought home multiple podiums on their home mountain.

Rocky/Central U16 Junior Championships Wraps Up Eight Athletes Qualify for National Championships

SSWSC hosted the Rocky/Central U16 Championships last week from March 4-8, highlighting SSWSC’s commitment to athletic excellence, teamwork, and community involvement. Months of planning by staff, along with significant contributions from parent volunteers, race crew, and community members, to welcome over 105 athletes and their families to Steamboat and ensure the successful execution of the event. After multiple podium performances over the weekend eight Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes were named to the Rocky/Central National Team, Rylee Thomsen, Caroline Kristoff-Brown, Ella Orton, Owen Applequist, Reed Pope, Jonathan Nichols, Ryder Roth and Felix Hadley.

Steamboat Moguls Team Wraps Rocky Mountain Freestyle Season at Divisional Championships

Thirteen SSWSC moguls athletes qualified for the 2026 Freestyle Moguls Junior Nationals at Utah Olympic Park in Park City, Utah, March 16–22, where they will compete for U15, U17 and U19 junior national titles in moguls and dual moguls.<br /> Women qualifiers include Finley Fontaine, Anouk Bradley, Lyllah Miller, Sydney Soard, Kensie Ricketts, Lucy Gray and Gigi Lobeck. Men qualifying are Griffin Harvey, Henry Crump, Cole Anderson, Aiden Kottcamp, Max Marrs and Archer Glaskin. Soard and Lobeck also qualified for the U.S. Moguls Freestyle Championships at Palisades Tahoe, March 27–29.

Senior Freeride Team Athletes Post Strong Results at IFSA Aspen 2*

Freeride Senior Team delivered strong performances at the International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association (IFSA) 2* Freeride Competition in Aspen, earning multiple top-10 finishes despite thin snow coverage and firm conditions. Competitors navigated challenging terrain throughout the venue but demonstrated confident skiing, strong line selection and adaptability.

Fun and Fast Racing at Rocky/Central U14/U16 Showdown

Four SSWSC U16 athletes and eight U14 athletes traveled to compete in the Rocky/Central U14/U16 Showdown from March 1–3, 2026, in Winter Park, CO. The event brought together athletes from across the Rocky and Central regions who did not qualify for their championship events, offering a chance to race hard, build new friendships, and enjoy one of the most spirited competitions of the season. The atmosphere is reminiscent of the old Prater Cup—equal parts competition, camaraderie, and fun.

Maddy Schaffrick cheers on Steamboat athletes and USASA Halfpipe event in Steamboat.

Local athletes had a special guest cheering them on at the recent at-home USASA Halfpipe event, as hometown Olympian Maddy Schaffrick stopped by to support the next generation of riders. Fresh off competing in halfpipe at the 2026 Winter Olympics, Schaffrick spent the morning signing autographs, taking photos, and sharing stories from her journey to the Olympic stage.

Alum Jason Colby earns bronze at Ski Jumping Junior World Championships

Ski Jumping athlete and SSWSC alum Jason Colby earned a bronze medal on the ski jumping normal hill event at the Junior World Championships in Lillehammer, Norway on March 5. Colby’s bronze is also his first individual Junior Worlds medal, adding to the Mixed Team silver and Men’s Team bronze he won in Lake Placid last year.

U12 Devo Athletes Lay Down Their Best Runs in Vail IFSA Comp

Devo Freeski traveled with five athletes to Vail on Wednesday, March 4th, for the International Freeskiers and Snowboarders Association (IFSA) U12 big mountain event. After a last-minute venue change and with beautiful blue skies, athletes were able to complete inspection of this new venue to choose their lines for competition runs.

Piper Lemmer Podiums at First IFSA U15 Big Mountain Comp

Piper Lemmer, current Devo Free athlete, competed in her first IFSA U15 Big Mountain Competition at Monarch on March 3rd. The venue was Mirkwood Bowl, a steep hike-to bowl with a cliff band in the middle and some smaller drops towards the bottom. Piper was nervous to be the 2nd skier of the whole event, but she skied strong and picked a good line with two clean drops.
