Exciting Day at Howelsen Hill during USASA Rocky Mountain Series Slalom and Giant Slalom

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club hosted the USASA Rocky Mountain Series Slalom and Giant Slalom races at Howelsen Hill on February 14, and it was a perfect day to be away from the holiday crowds at Steamboat Resort and instead over at quiet Howelsen Hill, soaking up sunny, warm conditions. We kicked things off with two individual Giant Slalom races, with Thedo Remmelink setting a strong course with help from the ProAm Alpine Race Team and Jr Team’s Phineas Walters.

Steamboat Girls Shine at the IFSA Rippin’ Ladies Junior 2* in Telluride

Freeride athletes traveled to Telluride for the IFSA (International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association) Rippin’ Ladies Junior 2* on February 8—an all-girls big mountain competition featuring divisions in U12, U15, U19, and Adult. This unique event created an encouraging and empowering environment where our athletes could push themselves in a less intimidating, all-female setting. One of the highlights of the weekend was the opportunity for our juniors to watch the adult competitors ski the very same venue. Seeing strong, confident women charge the mountain provided powerful inspiration and a glimpse of what’s possible in the years ahead.

Under the Lights: U16 Alpine Skiers Take on Howelsen Hill

The U16 Alpine Team lit up Howelsen Hill with a weekend of fast-paced slalom action, hosting a thrilling night race on January 30 followed by a daytime showdown on Janauary 31 during the Sync Cup Slalom races in Steamboat. With crisp winter conditions and a lively home crowd, it was the perfect setting for two days of high-energy competition.

Young Snowboarders Stomp Snowboard Cross Races at Copper Mountain

SSWSC young snowboarders took the snowboard cross by storm at Copper Mountain, January 31-February 2. The course was short, fast, and technical. The start was manageable and fun, keeping athletes neck and neck through the first turn. This tight pinch point often decided the race—unless athletes fought hard from the back to find a good line and make a pass. SSWSC Snowboard had the largest presence, with a volunteer commenting, “SSWSC always shows up and dominates this weekend. It’s so fun to witness. The final medal count was 13 golds, 11 silvers, and 7 bronzes.

Steamboat Hosts Ski Town U.S.A. Moguls Comp

SSWSC and Steamboat Resort hosted the Ski Town USA Moguls Competition for Rocky Mountain Freestyle February 8-9, 2026. Ninety-six athletes competed from Colorado and Utah. With 50-degree days and 20-degree nights, Voodoo saw rock-hard conditions in the morning and soft, practically slushy conditions for 2nd run. Thanks to many landing choppers, the course stayed in reasonable shape for the duration of the event.

Cross Country Ski Team Dominates Podiums at DU Invite / Rocky Mountain Junior National Qualifier

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Cross Country Ski Team delivered outstanding performances at the DU Invite and Rocky Mountain Junior National Qualifier in Frisco this past weekend February 6-9, highlighted by dominant podium finishes in Friday’s classic mass start races and continued success in Sunday’s freestyle individual start events. U16 men swept the podium on both race days and multiple podium finishes in other races.

Freeride Team Takes Multiple Podium Spots at IFSA in Copper Mountain

SSWSC Freeride Team went to Copper Mountain this week, February 3 and 4, 202,6 for the Copper Mountain IFSA Comp 2*. On February 3, Skyler Davison took 2nd place in the women’s U19 division and skier Milly Grover took 3rd place in the women’s U15 category. On February 4, Reagan Farrell was 3rd.<br />

Strong Weekend for Freeride Team in Jackson Hole

The Freeride Team went up to Jackson Hole, Wyoming January 28-February 1, for the Jackson Hole 3* IFSA, featuring a stacked field and challenging conditions. Our athletes showed grit, adaptability, and competitive composure on a demanding venue. The U15 Team had standout results with a 3rd place finish for Paddock Whitten and a 5th place finish for Liza Stone.

Cross Country Ski Team has Multiple Podiums at Soldier Hollow Super JNQ

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club cross country ski team traveled to Soldier Hollow, Utah, Jan. 22–25, to compete in the Super Junior National Qualifier and RMISA collegiate races. The event, the largest junior cross country ski race in the country, featured more than 700 competitors and served as a Junior National Qualifier for athletes from the Rocky Mountain, Far West, Intermountain, High Plains, and Pacific Northwest divisions.
