With the dry winter and spring, the U17/U19 Mogul Team headed to Mt. Hood three weeks earlier than normal for summer on-snow training. Conditions proved to be excellent and the team had a long mogul section providing excellent out-of-competition training, allowing work on body position, tip drive and turn placement. At the bottom of the mogul run was a 4-jump table which allowed for training different jumps for different experience levels. Athletes were able to try their new tricks on snow for the first time as well as hone their existing quiver of jumps.
Despite Mother Nature preventing Timberline from opening two days, the athletes took advantage of their opportunity when they were on the hill the other 7 days. The coaches were impressed with the effort level of all the athletes-hiking jumps in the hot weather can be tedious but these athletes had goals and stepped up towards achieving them, with some athletes getting over 100 jumps in 4 days on the air site.
When off hill, the athletes kept busy-visiting Hood River, ZigZag Falls, Tamanawas Falls, playing laser tag, hitting the gym, going rock climbing, picking raspberries, playing numerous games of knock out, visiting many food trucks and, getting a little shopping in at the mall and of course, Huck shakes.
Now back in the gym and at the water ramps, the Team is hard at work, continuing their prep for next season.
