SSWSC Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined – Summer Season Wrap-Up!

As the days grow shorter and the crisp mountain air begins to hint at fall, we’re reflecting on an incredible summer of training, growth, and fun for the Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined program at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. From mid-May through mid-August, our athletes embraced the off-season with energy, commitment, and a whole lot of adventure!

Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team Crushes First Race of Season

The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike team took home seven top-three finishes, multiple top-10 finishes, and won the Yampa Division 1 category at the first race of The Colorado High School Cycling League race series on Saturday, August 23, at the Cloud City Challenge in Leadville. 367 racers competed in the Yampa Division race on Saturday – 35 riders from Steamboat High School and Steamboat Mountain School.

U13 Water Ramps Summer Training

This summer, the U13 athletes at SSWSC put in some incredible work both on the trampolines and the water ramps. Athletes started by building strong foundations on the trampolines, where they practiced spins and flips, then carried those skills over to the ramps, where they launched into the lake. A big focus throughout the summer was vision, training athletes to keep their eyes up, focused on the horizon, and where they want to be going.

Flight Camp Launches Athletes into Fall Season

The Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined program wrapped up summer with a high-flying finale at the Annual Flight Camp, held August 11–16 at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, UT. Sixteen athletes, ages 5 to 13, participated in this action-packed week of training, adventure, and team bonding.

Alpine Team Takes On Water Ramps at Bald Eagle Lake

On Thursday, July 31, the FIS alpine team did something a little different than the usual training. The team took a trip out to the water ramps and trampolines at Bald Eagle Lake, where Moguls Program Director Ann Battelle and a few mogul athletes coached the FIS Vipers to jump off the ramps.

Grey Barbier and Georgia Bishop Win Cross Country Team Test Week

It’s been about 20 years since the first installment of the Cross Country Test Week, and it’s remained a key event on the calendar ever since. Held annually in mid-July, it offers cross country athletes a chance to check in on their fitness and feel the pulse of competition. This year’s edition took place last week July 14-17.

SSWSC hosted it’s first Mt Hood summer camp in over a decade for the snowboard and freeski programs June 22-28. It was equal parts fun, progression, hide and seek tag, and Huckleberry Shakes.

Early morning ride up Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park, roller skiing from Dillon to Copper Mountain, trail running in the highest town in the United States, an unplanned day off in Basalt, Colorado, due to storms, and GoPro Mountain Games are just some of the highlights from the U16/U18/U20 Cross Country Summer Camp!

The SSWSC Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined team recently embarked on an unforgettable two-week training camp in Switzerland, hosted by the esteemed Kandersteg Nordic Arena. This intensive camp provided an unparalleled opportunity for nine of our dedicated athletes to immerse themselves in the world of international Nordic sports.
