Evan Soard Named SSWSC Cycling Program Director

We are pleased to announce that Evan Soard has accepted the position as SSWSC Cycling Program Director as of June 16. Evan brings a lifetime of experience in cycling and a passion for the sport and we are excited to have him join the SSWSC team in this role.

Tony Lodico Promoted to Freeski Program Director

We are thrilled to announce that Tony Lodico has been promoted from Head Devo Freeski Coach to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club Freeski Program Director. Tony is a thoughtful and responsive leader who has truly listened to our freeski community over the years to deliver programs and coaching that fit Steamboat. For many years, he has been respected and trusted by coaches, athletes, and parents at SSWSC, and he is well-prepared to continue moving the program forward as the sport continues to evolve. We are all lucky that Tony has chosen to invest his time, energy, and talents in the community through SSWSC.

25 SSWSC Athletes and Alumni Nominated to U.S. Ski and Snowboard Teams

Athletes were nominated to teams across six disciplines: alpine, freestyle, ski jumping, nordic combined, snowboard, and freeski. Current SSWSC athletes newly nominated to the team are alpine athletes Logan Grosidier and Jeremy Nolting. Freestyle moguls alum Abby McLarnon, also newly nominated, skied with SSWSC until 2024-2025.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard Honors Ann Battelle with Two Top Awards as Coach of the Year

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) is proud to announce that SSWSC Freestyle Program Director Ann Battelle is the overall 2025 U.S. Ski & Snowboard Development Coach of the Year and Freestyle Development Coach of the Year. Awards were presented at the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Awards Banquet Wednesday evening in Park City, Utah. And even more awards were announced for individuals with ties to SSWSC.

Four SSWSC Athletes to Ski in College Next Season

Campbell McLaren will join the University of Vermont’s cross country (nordic) ski team. Post-graduate athletes Curtis Zanni, Ian Haupt, and Daniel Ferucci trained and raced with the SSWSC alpine team, under the direction of Head Coach Chad Wolk, during the 2024–2025 winter season in preparation for their collegiate skiing careers. Zanni will ski for Colby College in Maine, Haupt will ski for Montana State University, and Ferucci will compete with the Colorado Mountain College (CMC) program in Steamboat.

Moguls TeamSteam Competes in Final Event at Snowbird

Taking full advantage of the late-season snow, the mogul skiers wrapped up their season with a final event at Snowbird, April 19–20. With just four athletes participating in this FIS Open opportunity, TeamSteam walked away with strong results and even more valuable experience. The event served up a mix of snow, slush, graupel, wind, and sunshine—classic springtime Freestyle conditions!

Welcome New Director of Finance Karen Wolf

We are thrilled to announce that Karen Wolf will join SSWSC as Director of Finance on May 1, 2025, a position currently held by Amy Burkholder. Amy will continue to work full-time until the end of May, helping to close out the fiscal year, and will help throughout the summer with the transition.

Reid Graham Wins Gold and Branigan Murphy takes home 3rd at IFSA Junior Freeride Championships

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) had a strong presence at the IFSH Junior Freeride Championships, with seven athletes competing: Reid Graham (U15 Snowboard Male), Jayla McGlone (U15 Snowboard Female), Riley McNew (U19 Snowboard Female), Vander Zuck, Branigan Murphy, Banks Ward (U15 Ski Male), and Ryan Montgomery (U19 Ski Male). Two SSWSC alumni also qualified—Ellie Reynolds (U19 Ski Female) and Gavin Murphy (U19 Ski Male). This marked Ellie's fourth invite and Riley's second appearance at Junior Freeride Championships.
