The ski jumping and nordic combined program wrapped up its summer/fall training season with a high-flying finale: the Annual Mini-Camp held October 16–19 at Howelsen Hill. This four-day camp brought together nearly 50 enthusiastic athletes from Steamboat Springs and our friends at the Park City Ski & Snowboard Club for an unforgettable experience filled with skill-building, camaraderie, and fun.
Athletes aged 7 to 17 participated in six focused jumping sessions on the HS8, HS45, and HS75 meter jumps. The camp offered a final opportunity to sharpen technique and build confidence before the plastic surfaces are covered in preparation for winter. With crisp autumn air and golden leaves as a backdrop, the energy on the hill was electric as athletes pushed themselves to new heights.
One of the highlights of the camp was a lively skills event that added a playful twist to the training. Athletes showcased their agility, balance, and creativity in a series of challenges designed to reinforce fundamentals while keeping the mood light and engaging. It was a great reminder that progress and joy go hand in hand in sport.
The Annual Mini-Camp is a cornerstone of our seasonal training plan, offering a concentrated block of development before the transition to winter. The following week after the camp concluded, club members began the important task of installing snow nets over the plastic surfaces, an essential step to ensure snow retention once the cold sets in. This hands-on effort reflects the strong community spirit that defines our club.
Looking ahead, snowmaking will begin as soon as temperatures consistently dip below 27°F. If Mother Nature cooperates, we hope to be back on snow around November 20. Until then, our athletes will carry the momentum from Mini-Camp into dryland training, eagerly anticipating the first frosty jumps of the season.
A huge thank you to all the athletes, coaches, and families who made this camp a success. Your dedication, teamwork, and passion for ski jumping and Nordic combined continue to inspire. Here’s to a fantastic winter ahead—see you on the hill!
