Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club has announced the retirement of Paul Berge, long-time foundation board member and club supporter, after 22 years of service. In 1972, a group of friends met with Paul Berge in Madison, Wisconsin, and learned about a new ski area in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Together, they purchased land on the mountain and built a home below the Thunderhead Lift and marked the beginning of Paul’s and his family’s love of the Steamboat Springs community and his dedication to Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC).
Paul served as chair of the SSWSC Foundation and made significant contributions through the executive, investment, and development committees before retiring in November. He also chaired the effort to establish the SSWSC Legacy Society, which recognizes planned gifts of $50,000 or more. The Legacy Society, along with the Board Designated Endowment, helps ensure the club can continue supporting athletes for generations to come.
Paul and his daughter, Maren, served as the 2020 Grand Marshals of the Winter Carnival. In 2025, Paul established the Berge Family Scholarship Fund, an endowed fund supporting SSWSC Alpine athletes.
