Alpine Racing Programs
SSWSC Alpine Ski Racing program builds on a strong Steamboat tradition of competitive excellence in the sport and fostering the culture of ski racing. The primary goals of the SSWSC Alpine Ski Racing Programs are to cultivate a life-long passion for the sport of skiing and to develop the technical and tactical skill to achieve the goals of the individual skier while at the same time building life skills such as focus, organization, timeliness, self-control, teamwork, goal-setting, and respect of rules and others. The younger age groups focus on fun and the development of basic fundamental athletic skills, strength, technique, and stamina through freeskiing, drills, and gates in a variety of environments. This exposure and mileage in and out of gates forms the foundation for all future development and success as an alpine ski racer. Once technical skills are refined, training begins to focus more on the tactical elements of ski racing in gates. In the U14 and older programs, athletes begin to optimize specific sport skills and begin a progressive, structured strength and conditioning program geared toward competing in regional, national, and international levels in the sport. SSWSC is fortunate to have two lighted training venues right in Steamboat, the Stevens Family All Out venue at Steamboat Resort as well as Howelsen Hill, as well as close proximity to fall, late spring, and early summer on-snow training at nearby Colorado resorts.
