Grey Barbier and Georgia Bishop Win Cross Country Team Test Week

It’s been about 20 years since the first installment of the Cross Country Test Week, and it’s remained a key event on the calendar ever since. Held annually in mid-July, it offers cross country athletes a chance to check in on their fitness and feel the pulse of competition. This year’s edition took place last week July 14-17.

The format includes four physical tests over four consecutive days. Like a stage race in cycling, results are ranked daily, and we post a Leader Board each day for athletes to track their standing. The four tests are: the Canadian Strength Test, the Hot Springs Time Trial, the Sanctuary Double Pole Time Trial, and a 3,000-meter running race.

On both the men’s and women’s sides, the athletes who led after the first test held their leads through to the end—demonstrating consistent performance across all events.

On the men’s side, Grey Barbier, an NCAA skier at Montana State University, took the overall win. Dartmouth’s Henry Magill placed second, and Campbell McLaren—who is set to join the UVM ski team this fall—finished third.

In the women’s competition, Georgia Bishop claimed top honors, winning each of the four events. Maia McGinnis-Smith followed in second place, with Tig Loomis rounding out the podium in third.

A total of 22 athletes participated this year, and every one of them put in a strong effort throughout the week.
