Flight Camp Concludes Ski Jumping/Nordic Combined Summer Season

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club’s Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined program wrapped up summer with a high-flying finale at the Annual Flight Camp, held August 10–15 at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, UT. Eighteen athletes, ages 8 to 18, participated in this action-packed week of training, adventure, and team bonding. Flight Camp delivers one last intense block of jump training before school begins. With eight ski jumping sessions, five dryland workouts, and two roller ski sessions, athletes logged a high volume of jumps in a short time, perfect for reinforcing technique and building confidence. For many, it was also a chance to jump bigger hills for the first time, marking a major milestone in their development.

A few of our younger athletes made their first trip to the Utah Olympic Park, and the excitement was palpable. The venue’s world-class facilities provided the perfect backdrop for growth, and several athletes achieved personal records (PRs) during the camp. The energy and enthusiasm were contagious, with athletes pushing themselves and cheering each other on throughout the week. We were also joined by athletes from the Park City Ski & Snowboard team for portions of the camp, fostering a spirit of collaboration and friendly competition. The shared experience helped build connections across clubs and added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Beyond training, Flight Camp included plenty of fun with a visit to Woodward Park for our fun activity which gave athletes a chance to unwind and bond. Then a festive party on Thursday night brought together athletes, coaches, and parents for games and celebration, capping off a memorable week. Flight Camp is the perfect way to end summer. It’s intense, inspiring, and a great opportunity for athletes to challenge themselves and celebrate their progress. We’re proud of the work they’ve put in and excited for what’s ahead.

While our younger athletes were flying high in Park City, most of the club’s older Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined athletes had just returned from a two-week training camp in Slovenia, Austria and Italy. Together, these camps represent the culmination of a successful summer training season.

Now, as school begins and after a short break, the SSWSC J/NC program is shifting focus to an exciting fall competition and training schedule. Our younger jumpers will head to Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove, IL for a competition the first weekend in October while our older athletes are preparing for the U.S. Championships in Lake Placid, which will take place during the second weekend in October. Then, we’ll host our Annual Minicamp in Steamboat, during the third weekend in October.

Thanks to all the families, coaches, and volunteers who made Flight Camp a success. Here’s to a strong start to the school year and a thrilling fall season!
