As the days grow shorter and the crisp mountain air begins to hint at fall, we’re reflecting on an incredible summer of training, growth, and fun for the Ski Jumping & Nordic Combined program at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. From mid-May through mid-August, our athletes embraced the off-season with energy, commitment, and a whole lot of adventure!
This summer, we welcomed approximately 70 athletes across age groups U10 through U20, each bringing their passion and drive to weekly jump training and dryland sessions at Howelsen Hill. Our plastic-covered jumps allowed athletes to stay sharp and refine technique, while dryland workouts focused on building strength, balance, coordination, and endurance—key components for success in the winter season.
Beyond our local training, the summer was packed with exciting travel and competition opportunities. Athletes ventured abroad to Switzerland and Norway for international training camps, gaining valuable experience and exposure to world-class facilities and coaching. Domestically, we participated in two major camps at the Utah Olympic Park in Park City, UT—the Springer Tournee and our very own Flight Camp, which continues to be a highlight of the summer.
One of the most memorable moments of the season was our Ski Jumping Extravaganza over the July 4th holiday. This annual event has become the club’s largest spectator draw, and this year was no exception. With enthusiastic crowds, thrilling jumps, and a festive atmosphere, it was a celebration of sport and community that truly showcased the spirit of SSWSC. Topping off the event, once again an SSWSC athlete took home the top honors as Arthur Tirone landed the longest jump and took home the top prize.
We wrapped up the summer with a fantastic end-of-season party on August 24th at Bald Eagle Lake. Athletes and families gathered for a cook-out, trampoline fun, and water ramp jumping—a perfect way to celebrate the hard work and camaraderie built over the past few months.
Summer training is more than just preparation—it’s a chance for athletes to grow without the pressures of school, to travel and compete, and to build lasting friendships. We’re proud of every athlete who showed up, pushed themselves, and represented SSWSC with pride.
Looking ahead, our fall training season is already underway. Highlights include a camp in Fox River Grove, Illinois (Oct 1–6) for our younger athletes, followed by a trip to the National Championships in Lake Placid (Oct 7–18). We’ll close out the fall with our Mini-Camp (Oct 16–19), where we’re excited to host the Park City Ski & Snowboard Team for a few last sessions of plastic jumping, shared training and fun.
After Mini-Camp, we’ll begin transitioning our jumps for winter use and—fingers crossed—start making snow soon after. The momentum from summer will carry us into the colder months with confidence and excitement on this Olympic year.
Thank you to all the athletes, families, coaches, and supporters who made this summer so special. Here’s to a strong fall season and an epic winter ahead in Ski Town USA!
Go SSWSC!
