The Steamboat Springs High School Mountain Bike Team powered through the Colorado League’s third race of the season on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, at the Haymaker Classic in Eagle. Four hundred fifteen riders competed on a challenging 6-mile course featuring 600 feet of climbing, winding berms, and a fast slalom descent. Varsity riders raced three laps, with all other categories racing two laps. Steamboat earned its third straight Division 1 team win, edging Boulder by just 54 points. In an exciting competition that wasn’t decided until the last lap of the last race, Steamboat tallied 7,563 points with 15 riders finishing inside the top 10 of their respective categories. The depth of the Steamboat squad once again proved decisive. Varsity girls standout Whitney Warnke took second place in a highly competitive division, while teammate Allie Reznicek followed in sixth, helping secure crucial points. On the boys’ side, varsity racer Luke Bedell cracked the top 20 in a stacked field, finishing 18th overall.
Junior varsity brought more podiums for Steamboat. Robbie Wodnik sprinted to first in JV boys, edging teammate Quinn Dressen, who crossed just seconds behind in second. Jackson Rosencrantz added depth with a fourth-place finish. JV girls were equally strong as Sydney Soard claimed first, extending her lead in the series standings, and Lucia Magnotta placed third. Lindsay Berke’s eighth-place finish gave Steamboat three riders in the top 10.
In the sophomore boys race, Steamboat dominated once again. Odin Gruben led from the start and never looked back, taking the win with Henry Davis right on his wheel in second. Soren Shepherd added an eighth-place finish, and Fisher Beauregard came in 13th to cap a deep sophomore showing.
The freshman categories revealed a bright future for the team. Fritz Gamber rode to third place in freshman boys, with Jayden Hargis close behind in fourth and Andrew Melzer in fifth, stacking the leaderboard with Steamboat jerseys. On the girls’ side, Samara Lambert captured third and Zoe Finnegan placed 11th.
Nearly all of Steamboat’s athletes had great races. For example, team captain Anna and sister Julia Boness both moved up several slots from their seeded start positions, marking significant personal improvement.
Assistant coach Jeff Minotto praised the team’s balance across age groups: “Every category delivered points that mattered today. It wasn’t just about the podiums, it was about riders digging deep for the team.”

The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team is managed by the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
The victory keeps Steamboat atop the Yampa Division standings as the season heads into its final stretch. Boulder remains close behind, and Lakewood sits third. With just one race remaining before state finals, every finish will count. “This was a gritty performance,” said Majors. “We knew Boulder would be strong, and our athletes rose to the challenge. Now we turn the page to the next race—this team isn’t done yet.”
The Colorado High School Cycling League, now in its 16th season consists of more than 160 high schools. The 2025 race series has four regions: Yampa, Crystal, Piedra, and Platte. Steamboat Springs High School students and Steamboat Mountain School students race in the Yampa division. The Colorado League facilitates the development of interscholastic mountain bike cycling teams for grades 9-12. The program promotes positive youth development through interscholastic mountain biking for high school students in Colorado, southern Wyoming, northern New Mexico, and Spearfish, South Dakota.
