The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike team once again dominated the Yampa Division during the Showdown in the Boat on Sunday, September 7, 2025, on Emerald Mountain at Howelsen Hill. 38 athletes competed for Steamboat with 368 racers total in the Yampa Division, and the team defended their home trails with their second Division 1 win of the year, 10 top-three finishes, and 20 top-ten finishes. The race was a 5.5-mile course that included 684 feet of climbing per lap and featured singletrack, technical doubletrack, and fire roads, with Varsity racers completing three laps and all other categories racing two laps.
Steamboat’s success came from depth across every category—Varsity, JV, Sophomore, and Freshman. Varsity Girls standout Whitney Warnke secured a 2nd place finish, with Allie Reznicek close behind in 6th, and Eva Minotto in 9th. Varsity Boys saw Luke Bedell place 15th and Schuyler Biglow 24th, holding their own in a fast field.
In Junior Varsity Girls, Sydney Soard dominated with a first-place finish, maintaining her points lead in the division. Lucia Magnotta followed in 2nd, and Lindsay Berke in 9th, and Zoe Chase in 10th, rounded out the top 10. The Junior Varsity Boys were equally impressive: Quinn Dressen led the charge in 1st, followed by Robbie Wodnik in 3rd and Jackson Rosencrantz in 4th.
The Sophomore Boys category may have been the day’s most impressive show of force: Odin Gruben, Henry Davis, Soren Shepherd, and Fisher Beauregard went 1-2-3-4 for Steamboat, with Daniel Crocker and Silas Setter also in the top 25.
The Freshman also showed they can make contributions to the overall team, with Jayden Hargis taking 2nd for the Freshman Boys and Samara Lambert in 2nd for the Freshman Girls. Teammates Andrew Melzer, 4th place, and Fritz Gamber, 5th place, were both in the top five for Freshman Boys, solidifying a bright future for the team.

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club oversees the Steamboat High School Mountain Bike team. “It’s not just about the podium,” said assistant coach Chris Magnotta. “It’s about teamwork, resilience, and giving your best. And that’s what these athletes do—week in and week out.”
The result also solidifies Steamboat’s position at the top of the Yampa Division standings after two races. But no one on the team is taking anything for granted. “We’re proud of this win,” said Majors, “but we’re already looking ahead to the next one. Every rider, every lap, every point matters.”
