The Steamboat High School Mountain Bike Team wrapped up its regular season with another win at the Chalk Creek Stampede in Nathrop, securing both the race victory and the overall Yampa Region title in the Colorado High School Cycling League’s Division I standings. Sydney Soard, Quinn Dressen, and Odin Gruben Win Regional Titles
The 6.7-mile course, located at the base of Mount Princeton, included more than 540 feet of climbing per lap and featured a mix of ranch roads, rocky descents, and narrow singletrack through cottonwood and aspen groves. Riders faced steep climbs and fast drops that tested bike handling and endurance.
Steamboat finished with 7,547 points, edging out Boulder (7,505) for the overall team win. Whitney Warnke placed second in varsity girls, and Quinn Dressen won the JV boys race, securing his spot as the region’s JV points leader.
Team depth was a key factor. Allie Reznicek finished fifth in varsity girls. Jackson Rosencrantz and Lucia Magnotta both earned second-place finishes in their JV categories. Sydney Soard placed third, and Odin Gruben won his race in the sophomore boys. Both Soard and Gruben ended the season as points leaders in their categories.
Steamboat also earned the rodeo-themed Team Spirit Award, recognizing the group’s enthusiasm and creativity during race weekend.
Reznicek was also named the Slingshot Award winner, honoring the rider who moved up the most positions from the Eagle race to the Nathrop race — a reflection of her consistency and improvement over four races.
Head Coach Paul Majors credited the team’s collective effort. “Every rider contributed to this championship. From varsity to freshman, they showed heart, skill and teamwork. Winning both the race and the region title is a reflection of how hard they’ve worked all season.”
Steamboat Mountain Bike Team athletes who won the overall regional point series in their categories are, Sydney Soard (JV Girls), JV boys, Quinn Dressen (JV Boys), Odin Gruben (Sophomore Boys). Seniors Ava Minotto, Luke Bedell, Elliot Nance, and Anna Boness were also honored!
With the regional title secured, Steamboat looks forward to competing at the state championships. The Colorado Cycling League will announce the state championship qualifiers later this week with many athletes from Steamboat anticipated to qualify. The Colorado High School Cycling League State Championships – Spring Valley Scramble will take place October 18-19, 2025, in Glenwood Springs on the Colorado Mountain College Spring Valley Campus.

The Colorado High School Cycling League, now in its 16th season, consists of more than 160 high schools. The 2025 race series has four regions: Yampa, Crystal, Piedra, and Platte. Steamboat Springs High School students and Steamboat Mountain School students race in the Yampa division. The Colorado League facilitates the development of interscholastic mountain bike cycling teams for grades 9-12. The program promotes positive youth development through interscholastic mountain biking for high school students in Colorado, southern Wyoming, northern New Mexico, and Spearfish, South Dakota.
