Cycling Senior Team is for intermediate and expert-level high school-age athletes interested in competing and taking their cycling to the next level, riders who want to get ready for the high school MTB season, and those athletes looking to use riding as cross-training to gain endurance and strength for their winter sport. This new format combines what were formerly the XC and Enduro programs. The goals of the program are learning expert technical skills, progressively developing endurance and fitness, and learning how to plan training and pursue goals on and off the bike. Training will consist of a mix of XC/Trail riding, longer road and gravel days, and Enduro-specific sessions at the Steamboat bike park. Athletes will be able to choose their area of focus for training in order to reach individual goals. Strength training will be included during scheduled sessions. Training will also include a few travel days to places like Winter Park on select Fridays, it is not required.
In addition to three group sessions per week in the summer, athletes will be provided with training plans for additional individual training sessions. Team members will have the opportunity to race in the Town Challenge MTB Series as well as other regional races such as the Winter Park Classics series. While competition is encouraged, it is not required. Two to three training camps will be offered in the spring and late summer. Costs of training camps and out-of-town races/travel will be in addition to the program fee.
