Four SSWSC athletes will ski at the collegiate level beginning winter 2025.
Steamboat Springs High School senior Campbell McLaren will join the University of Vermont’s cross country (nordic) ski team. College signing day occurred on Monday, May 12 at the high school. Campbell joined other high school athletes to honor their accomplishments and celebrate with families.
Post-graduate athletes Curtis Zanni, Ian Haupt, and Daniel Ferucci trained and raced with the SSWSC alpine team, under the direction of Head Coach Chad Wolk, during the 2024–2025 winter season in preparation for their collegiate skiing careers. Zanni will ski for Colby College in Maine, Haupt will ski for Montana State University, and Ferucci will compete with the Colorado Mountain College (CMC) program in Steamboat.
SSWSC athletes will join many club alumni currently racing at the NCAA level. During the 2024–2025 winter season, 35 SSWSC athletes competed in NCAA Division I skiing. Six athletes qualified for the NCAA Championships at Dartmouth College in March: Bode Flanigan (Boston College, alpine), Nicholas Unkovskoy (Middlebury, alpine), Hannah Soria (Colby College, alpine), Isabelle Washburn (Dartmouth College, alpine), Chase High (St. Scholastica, nordic) and Grey Barbier (Montana State, nordic).
Flanigan made history this year as the first alpine ski athlete from Boston College to earn a podium finish at the NCAA Championships, placing third.
All schools, regardless of division, compete against each other in NCAA skiing as equals.
Schools with NCAA ski teams in the EISA (Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association) include D1: Boston College, Dartmouth College, Harvard University, University of New Hampshire, University of Vermont; D2: St. Michael’s College; D3: Bates College, Colby College, Colby-Sawyer College, Middlebury College, Plymouth State University, St. Lawrence University, and Williams College.
Schools with NCAA ski teams in the RMISA (Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association) include D1: University of Colorado, University of Denver, Montana State University, University of Utah, University of Nevada, Reno D2: University of Alaska, Anchorage, and Westminster College. Additionally, Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs has a team that is an associate member of RMISA.
Central Collegiate Ski Association schools with NCAA programs are cross country (nordic) only: College of Saint Scholastica, Michigan Tech University, Northern Michigan University, Saint Cloud State University, Saint Olaf College and University of Wisconsin – Green Bay.
