U17/U19 Freestyle Moguls Seasonal Coach

  • Period: October - April
  • Compensation: $23-28/hr

SSWSC is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and respected U17/U19 Freestyle Mogul Coach to help lead the organization’s mogul athletes and support consistent program delivery across the department. This coach will guide technical development of athletes and foster a team-oriented culture. 

The ideal candidate is a strong skier with deep freestyle mogul expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work within a team.. This role works closely with the Freestyle Program Director and represents SSWSC culture, mission, and values in all aspects of coaching and leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach U17/U19 team training, competition, and travel including on-snow training and strength and conditioning with a focus on the FIS level athletes.
  • Collaborate with Head Coach & Program Director and assistant coaches to execute a technical progression for the program as is appropriate for the discipline.
  • Assist with primary training group needs including but not limited to athlete equipment ordering, setup and maintenance, athlete competition calendars, recording and reviewing training video with athletes, posting and if needed facilitating strength and conditioning workouts via Train Heroic, maintaining team Google Calendars, updating training attendance, and submitting incident reports as necessary.
  • Collaborate with coaches regarding preseason goal setting, and mid-season and end-of-season evaluations for athletes.
  • Support the build and maintenance for freestyle venues (Travis Mayer Mogul Course on Voodoo and mogul lanes at Howelsen Hill).
  • Maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with SSWSC staff, Steamboat Ski and Resort staff, City of Steamboat Springs Howelsen Hill staff.
  • Professional use of specific communication tools provided by the Director of Communications.
  • Establish and maintain regular communication and relationships with parents within the program.
  • Assist in the development, prep and competition plans that reflect the mission of the SSWSC, goals of the athlete, and sound, science-based periodization training and competition models that lead to success through a targeted and creative approach.
  • Coordinate the Director of Sports Performance and Asst. Sports Performance Coach to identify and address trends in injuries over the past three seasons in ALL age groups.
  • Attend all required SSWSC staff training seminars and meetings.
  • Represent, uphold and contribute to the SSWSC mission, vision and core values.
  • Enforce the athlete code of conduct and manage disciplinary issues, with the help of the Athletic Director for athletes in accordance with club policies and procedures.
  • Other duties assigned by program director or SSWSC leadership.
