MOOSE’S LOOSE GOLF TOURNAMENT

SAVE THE DATE: The 47th Annual Moose’s Loose Golf Tournament in memory of Moose Barrows will be held September 16, 2026.

The Moose’s Loose Golf Tournament is Steamboat’s longest-held golf tournament, now hosted in memory of Olympian Moose Barrows. All proceeds from this tournament go to the Moose Barrows Athletic Achievement Scholarships at the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Moose envisioned the Athletic Achievement Scholarship to ensure that Steamboat kids who have achieved the top levels in their winter sport can afford to travel to championship-level events without undue financial hardship.

Moose Barrows Memorial Scholarship Fund

Supporting young athletes in Steamboat was one of Moose Barrows’ greatest passions. A Steamboat Springs native, Moose relied on the support of the community during his time on the national team. To give future athletes the same opportunity, Moose, along with Paul Thayer and Hank Kashiwa, created a golf tournament to raise scholarship funds for Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes.

For 45 years, the tournament has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help young athletes participate in programming, training, travel, and competitions they might not otherwise be able to afford. Moose’s Loose Golf Tournament will continue annually in his honor.

To honor Moose’s legacy, SSWSC, the Barrows family, and Moose’s friends established the Moose Barrows Memorial Scholarship Fund within the SSWSC Endowment.
