Last weekend, our Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes traveled to Telluride for the IFSA (International Freeskiers & Snowboarders Association) Rippin’ Ladies Junior 2* on February 8—an all-girls big mountain competition featuring divisions in U12, U15, U19, and Adult.
This unique event created an encouraging and empowering environment where our athletes could push themselves in a less intimidating, all-female setting. One of the highlights of the weekend was the opportunity for our juniors to watch the adult competitors ski the very same venue. Seeing strong, confident women charge the mountain provided powerful inspiration and a glimpse of what’s possible in the years ahead.
The venue itself was no joke. Athletes faced a steep, rocky face with very thin snow conditions—technical, consequential terrain that demanded smart line choice, composure, and confident execution. Our girls rose to the challenge and skied with grit and determination. Seven athletes from our Junior Team and Devo Freeski program competed – Eby Hill who landed 3rd place, Liza Stone, Sasha Wodnik, Mathilda Spaustat, Milly Grover in U15 and Kenzie Kormer and Evelyn LeCuyer in U12.
The weekend was a huge success. Traveling together, exploring new terrain at Telluride, supporting one another at the top of a gnarly venue, and celebrating at the bottom made for an unforgettable team experience. We’re incredibly proud of how our athletes represented Steamboat—skiing strong, skiing smart, and lifting each other up every step of the way.
