Last week, SSWSC Freeskiers took to Breckenridge Resort for the 2024 IFSA Junior Freeride Championships. The top 8% of athletes from the US, Canada, and South America (for the first time ever) competed for the gold and overall IFSA standings. Ellie Reynolds, Mason Stewart, and Oscar Dalzell earned the invitation to the Championships based on their results throughout the season.

Cross country athlete Tristan Thrasher won the biathlon G16 category at the 2024 Bama Liatoppen Skiskytterfestival in Liagardane, Norway, on April 13, 2024. Tristan Thrasher and Davis Brosterhous competed in the events representing U.S. Biathlon. Brosterhous also finished in the top 20 in the J16 category, finishing 14th out of nearly 60 competitors. Tristan also earned the Hans Jorgen Tveito Memorial Award for the top athlete in his age category.

Four SSWSC U16 Alpine Team athletes—Logan Grosdidier, Caley Goforth, Bella Fisher, and Mathew Kafka — qualified to compete in the U16 National Championship in Vail, Colorado, from March 31 to April 4. After a week of racing, Logan Grosdidier emerged as the undisputed victor, taking home gold in all four timed events and seventh in the SkillsQuest Assessment.

Thirty-six SSWSC Snowboard Team athletes competed in the 2024 USASA Nationals last week. Athletes from SSWSC ranged in age from 7 to 26 and competed in halfpipe, slopestyle, rail jam, boardercross, slalom, or giant slalom from March 30 to April 4, 2024, at Copper Mountain. Madden Matuga was 1st place overall Nationals Champ for Ruggie Boys (7-8), Bridger Eavenson was 7th overall for Ruggie Boys (7-8), and Summit Lynch was 6th overall for Menehune Boys (11-12).

The U.S. Cross Country Junior Nationals took place last week, March 11-16, in Lake Placid, NY., the 1980 Winter Olympic Games site. Fifteen Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club athletes qualified for the Junior Nationals, and 13 attended the event along with three SSWSC coaches to represent the Rocky Mountain region in the races. Cross Country Athlete Tristan Thrasher brings home bronze in freestyle skate race and SSWSC athletes bring home multiple top-10 results.

A group of U16 alpine athletes headed to beautiful Crested Butte to compete in the U16 R/C Showdown, March 7- 10. During the series, the athletes participated in a day of Super G training, a Super G race, a giant slalom and a slalom race. The team could not have asked for better weather and snow conditions.

The Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Team just returned from the final competition of the season last weekend. Twenty-four eager athletes, U10 through U16, made the trip to Park City, Utah, for the 2024 Western Regional Championships. Arthur Tirone took the win in both the ski jumping and nordic combined U16 events and there were many other podiums to cap off the week!

Aspen Snowmass hosted the latest World Cup men’s races from March 1-3. The event included two GS races and one slalom. The U16 alpine team attended the GS race on March 2 and volunteered their time to help with the slip and course crew.

After more than a week of epic snowfall, postponements, and cancellations, the U18 National Championships operations crew in Jackson, Wyoming, pulled off six of the ten races planned for the week. SSWSC athletes took home medals in every discipline. Noelle Roth took home the U18 National Championship slalom title and Katharina Cosby was 2nd overall on the series for the women, and Adrian Beauregard was 3rd overall for the men.

Six athletes from the U17 Team Steam headed to Telluride over the weekend to take on the Southwest Classic. Beautiful, jagged peaks and blue skies met the athletes as they bumped down Hermit, pushing their speed and jumps. U.S. Alpine Ski Team Member and SSWSC athlete Roman Elvidge won the Western Region Elite Alpine Race Series giant slalom race on Monday, February 19, on Snow King Mountain in Jackson, Wyoming. Teammate Ian Haupt was also on the podium in 3rd place. On Tuesday, February 20, Ian Haupt was on the podium again for the giant slalom in 2nd place, and teammate Colin Kagan was 3rd.
