Snowboard

Snowboard Intro to Comp (SIC), ages 8-11

This program is intended for riders who are looking to progress their snowboard skills while being introduced to the world of competition. This is a great program for the young rider who already has a solid foundation of skills on their snowboard and is driven to compete against riders their age across the Rocky Mountain region. In order to foster the rider’s long term athletic development and provide experience and learning opportunities, athletes will participate in one regional event for each discipline; 1 Giant Slalom, 1 Slalom, 1 Boardercross, 1 Halfpipe, 1 Slopestyle, and 1 Rail Jam through USASA Rocky Mountain Series. 4 of these 6 events will be held and hosted here in Steamboat.

The weekly training schedule and introduction to one event per discipline is based off of US Ski and Snowboard’s Training System Matrix and the Phase 2 recommendations of being in an Adventure Stage of training and Competing for Fun. We will emphasize team camaraderie and team culture while setting individual goals and focusing on individual progression.

If your athlete is not participating in other fall sports, check out our Fall Fun Fit (ages 8-10), additional Junior Snowboard Fall Dryland (11-13), and Fall Skateboard Camp for additional preseason training.

  • Minimum riding requirement: Ability to ride aggressively on black terrain and desire to improve
  • Equipment requirements: Participants need snowboard equipment, and a helmet. An all terrain board is recommended.
  • Participants must purchase season passes at Steamboat Ski Resort (Ikon pass recommended) and Howelsen Hill.
  • Competition information: Riders will participate in the USASA Regional Series.
  • Licensing requirements: A USASA license is required for all USASA Rocky Mountain Series competition.
