Junior Cycling Team (ages 9-14)
The Junior Cycling Team is for all athletes interested in developing their off-road skills and endurance and that have interest in exploring competitive cycling. The Junior Team members can race in the Town Challenge MTB Series and will pre-ride the race course with a coach on Tuesdays prior to competition. Racing is encouraged, but is not required. Athletes will have the opportunity to travel to out of town races. All athletes will learn the importance of stewardship and fundamental trail maintenance while working on designated trail work days. Coaching support provided at Wednesday evening race series events. Participation in the MTB Nationals in Winter Park is suggested.
Minimum ability requirements: Some mountain biking experience and desire for physical and mental challenge.
Minimum equipment requirements: 26”-29” mountain bike, cycling helmet, cycling gloves, sunglasses, water and spare tube (the same size as your athlete’s tire!!)
Beneficial equipment: CamelBak, bike shorts, clipless pedals
DATES AND TIMES:
Spring: Tuesdays & Thursday, May 17 - June 2, 4:00-6:00pm (mtb rides on road)
Summer: June 7 - July 29
- Tuesday, Thursday 8:00-10:30am
- Fridays 8:00am - 12pm (long ride day)
COST: $1,050. $1,150 after May 15.
SSWSC programs for summer 2022 that complement Junior Cycling Team for well-rounded athletic development and that can work with the Junior Cycling Team schedule: Beginner or Intermediate Skateboarding, FunFit (10-12), Nordic Jumping and Trampoline.
