Biglow & Fretwell Compete at U16 National Performance Series

After impressive performances at the Rocky Central prep camp in early December and strong results in Winter Park before the holiday break, second-year U16 athletes Schuyler Biglow and Molly Fretwell earned invitations to the 2025 U16 National Performance Series races in East Burke, Vermont. Earlier this month, they tested their skills against top competitors from both the Eastern and Western regions, vying for a coveted spot in either the FESA Cup in France or Alpe Cimbra in Italy—with only six total spots available (three men and three women) for each event.

The 10-day trip included training sessions at various Eastern resorts, allowing Schuyler and Molly to adapt to the vastly different snow conditions. Unlike Colorado’s grippy, water-injected surfaces, the Eastern slopes were significantly icier, demanding precise fundamentals and tactical adjustments. The first day of training was a learning curve, but both athletes quickly adapted, fine-tuning their gear setup and refining their technique to optimize performance.

Racing on Dippers, a venue known for its rolling terrain and fall-away sections, presented further challenges—especially as overcast skies and shifting fog added to the complexity of the Giant Slalom races. Despite the conditions, Schuyler delivered strong GS finishes in 18th and 19th place, while Molly placed 25th in one of her GS runs. As the week progressed, the competition wrapped up with a sunny day of Slalom racing, where Schuyler secured 21st and 17th place, and Molly placed 24th and 14th.

Beyond the results, this experience was invaluable for both athletes. Training and competing in such demanding conditions strengthened their technical skills, race strategies, and adaptability. Traveling alongside 16 other Rocky/Central athletes also fostered new friendships and opportunities to learn from fellow competitors. Schuyler and Molly return home with a fresh perspective, a deeper understanding of the sport, and the confidence to carry these lessons into the rest of the season—and beyond.
