Miles Warnke and Team Turn Heads in Brattleboro Vermont Jump Nordic Combined Competition

Last week, February 14-16, 2025, seven athletes traveled to Brattleboro, Vermont, for a US Cup / Fred Harris Memorial competition—McKenzie Maines, Everett Baldwin, Kaden Graham, Miles Warnke, Nico Bowdre, Langdon Devin, and Pat Arnone (masters). It’s the best winter Vermont has seen in a long time, and it was nice to see white snow all around. Normally, the team arrives there, and grass is visible, it’s raining, and the only snow is on the jump hill.

This is a special competition for the small town of Brattleboro. The HS100 is only prepared once a year for this event, and it seems like the whole town comes out to watch, rain or shine. The athletes get to jump in front of a couple thousand people.

It wouldn’t be the East Coast if we didn’t have to battle some type of weather. Due to a major storm cycle coming in Saturday night into Sunday, the organizers had to condense the competitions into two days. Saturday athletes had to race in the morning, then go straight to the hill to start the US Cup competition. Immediately after the US Cup competition, the team headed into the Fred Harris competition for a fun target jump competition.

The athletes did incredible work despite the long two days of competing. SSWSC athletes definitely showed up and crushed it. Many athletes won big money and medals.

One athlete who is jumping and skating unbelievably right now is Miles Warnke. Most people probably don’t know that Miles has Type One Diabetes. He has been on the up-and-up since last year. During these competitions, Miles proves that you can live your dream with T1D by getting third place in the US Cup for jumping and second place in the US Cup cross country race. Miles then went on to win the U16 class in the Fred Harris competition. To top it off, Miles ended up tying with a Norwegian athlete for the target jump and winning $400. Overall, it has been beyond impressive to watch Miles do what he does and to beat his changeling T1D. Keep up the great work, Miles.

In addition, we had Pat Arnone, who is part of our events crew, join us as an athlete in Brattleboro. Pat performed wonderfully in the masters class and was excited to be part of the crew.

Since this is a U16/U20 event, we had McKenzie Maines and Langdon Devin join us from the U14 crew. The U14 team had a great competition. McKenzie, who competed in the US Cup class, finished in second place after jumping and then raced up to first place in the US Cup cross country race. She ultimately won the U16 jumping class at the Fred Harris Competition. Langdon Devin also had some impressive results, securing 2nd place in jumping and in his cross country race.

Overall, this was a fantastic trip for all the athletes. We now need to carry this momentum into our Junior Championship February 26-March 1 at the Utah Olympic Park and Soldier Hollow Nordic Center in Park City.
