Mogul Athlete Mia Satkiewicz Wins Back-to-Back Mogul Competitions at Copper Mountain
TeamSteam moguls team competed in the Summit Open at Cooper Mountain February 8-9, 2025, on Trebel Cliff. SSWSC’s Mia Satkiewicz was on fire, winning back-to-back single moguls events by over six points on Saturday and by three points on Sunday. Satkiewicz skied high-level run after high-level run, leaving the competition in the dust. She also had the fastest times of the weekend and the highest air scores. “I had so much fun skiing! I skied because I love it, not just to get results.” Satkiewicz said about the weekend. “I tried to push myself to go faster, ski my best, and feel satisfied with all the hard work I have been putting in. It was my first win in singles, which was my goal for the season.” SSWSC’s Jack Perkins laid down some fast and furious runs, finishing 2nd overall (1st U19) on Sunday, his best finish of the year.
Claire Boyle turned up the heat, having her best finishes of the year, placing 6th and 4th overall. Anouk Bradley had her highest and fastest skiing to date, placing 9th and 7th overall 2nd in U17. Gigi Lobeck finished in 8th and 11th overall, 3rd both days in U17. Lyllah Miller was 12th and 13th overall. Sydney Soard finished 15th and 24th. Finley Fontaine was 21st both days.
Jack Perkins also put in a solid performance on Saturday as well, ending up 9th. Cole Anderson earned 21st and 32nd. Griffin Harvey was 35th and 42nd. Henry Crump competed on Sunday, earning 23rd for his run.
Five U15 athletes from SSWSC competed at Copper, getting some experience with a longer course, bigger jumps and older kids. They showed up to ski, no intimidation factor at all, as they all skied two top to bottom runs. The boys, Max Mars, Abe Brown and Aidan Kottcamp all ended up in the top 15 for U15 boys. Kensie Ricketts and Lucy Gray both were in the top 6 for U15 girls.
TeamSteam has next weekend off for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. Then it’s off to Telluride twice in the next three weeks for the Southwest Freestyle Classic, February 22-23 and The Rocky Mountain Freestyle Divisional Championships March 8-9, both in Telluride.
