FREESTYLE :

The Mogul High Performance Team has just left Australia. The team was there for 19 days training on snow since the first time since this past spring in A-Basin. One of their goals was to bring what they’ve progressed on in relation to their jumping to the snow. This transition can be difficult but after near 1000 jumps, (not a typo), to this point and another 300 to go before the end of September, (that equates to over 18 miles walking in their ski boots), they will be prepared for a full season of mogul skiing on the Nor-Am Tour. At the end of their training camp they competed at the Australian National Championships. This international competition has athletes from Japan, Canada, Australia and France with the SSWSC representing American athletes.

SSWSC Athlete Landon Wendler finished 4th in the 1st round of qualifying: besting Olympic Silver Medalist Matt Graham, (field of 58 men), as well as 7th in the second round. Overall, he finished 9th; a great showing for a young athlete competing at an international level. SSWSC athletes Bubba Antkiewicz finished 14th and Spencer Belsky finished 18th. “These young men competed to their ability. They have made nice progress throughout the off season and we still have a ways to go in relation to their skill development both in skiing and their jumping. Their process has been above and beyond with attention to detail at every moment. We believe that it is the attention to detail that makes the difference. These athletes are up to the task!” said Bobby Aldighieri, Director of Freestyle Moguls. Kenzie Radway pushed hard in the ladies’ competitions and finished 14th on the first day and and 10th on the second day. Kenzie is our youngest member of the HP Team and had some excellent results along with her teammates. Kenzie has the ability to charge down the course, (we will let you know that she learned this from skiing with the boys and her one night of alpine race training every week here at the SSWSC – thanks coach Ben Brown!). Kenzie is a committed and mature young lady that is very focused but also likes to enjoy her time wherever she is! There is no doubt as she improves acrobatically she will be making waves on the Nor-Am Tour this winter. Maggie Ryan was slightly injured, (shoulder), prior to the camp so she did not compete but the coaches decided that it was best for her to focus completely on her skiing during the on snow opportunity. She has made excellent improvements and will be back in full action next week when the team resumes water ramping into late September.
