Nordic Combined

The Western Regional Championships came to Steamboat Springs this year, and with it came teams from all over North America!  Skiers from Anchorage, AK; Calgary, AB; and Park City, UT joined our local athletes to compete for titles on six different hills!  Our talented skiers represented SSWSC well and brought home hardware from every age class on every hill!  This was the largest field of athletes that has attended Western Regionals in years.  It was a real treat for our younger athletes who usually have to travel hours from home in order to compete against this many of their peers.  The nordic combined event was a special challenge as well.  Warm weather and pounding sunshine made the snow soft and difficult for the competitors.  Nevertheless, everyone gave tremendous effort as they raced for the gold.  Overall, the weekend was an awesome success and a fantastic experience for the young athletes!  We hope that Team Alaska and Team Canada will join us for more events in the future!! One extra special surprise was the appearance of Erik Lynch!  Erik has been fighting Lyme Disease over the past few years and he is still in a fragile state of health.  That didn’t stop him from taking flight on the HS100 and the HS127!  Not only did he compete, but he WON the HS100 event!! What an amazing showing for a gold-hearted kid.  The Steamboat Springs Touring Center will be hosting a benefit for Erik in order to relieve some of his medical expenses this coming Saturday, March 23rd at 3:00.  All are welcome to come enjoy games and a pig roast!

Alpine

Last week concluded the USSA Rocky/Central U14 Jr. National Championships! What a terrific week of racing! Every racer dazzled the crowd with their skills and fearless racing. Thank you to all the parents who supported their children through the events. Thank you to our volunteers who helped make the events run smoothly. A huge thank you to the SSWSC coaching staff who worked tirelessly to set up perfect race environments. And thanks to our great sponsors who helped make this event a memorable one for all the athletes!
