Welcoming Our New Coaches

Nordic Combined

We are pleased and excited to announce that two former SSWSC athletes, Peter Rosenthal and Melissa Requist, will be joining our J/NC staff for the summer.

Peter will take over the reins of our U10/12 program as Interim Head Coach. Peter grew up in the SSWSC as a NC athlete and is currently attending CU where he is pursuing a mathematics major. He has a strong passion for jumping and Nordic combined and brings a solid understanding of the fundamental trainings and techniques of both jumping and cross-country skiing.

Another former NC athlete, Melissa Requist, will join Peter to assist with the U10/12 athletes. Melissa also grew up in the SSWSC and will be a great addition to the energy of our program. With so many girls on our team, we are thrilled to have a female coach join our staff. Melissa is attending college at the University of Arizona (Biomedical Engineering/Music Performance).

I have had the pleasure of working with both of these great people as athletes and I’m thrilled to now work with them as coaches and staff members. To see former athletes turn around and give back to their home club and our sport is rewarding and an essential part of our continued long term success. You’ll still see all the other amazing U10/U12 assistant coaches blend in as well, as needed, throughout the summer.

We are continuing to talk with candidates for the head coaching positions for the U12 and U10 programs going into next season.

Skateboarding

We would like to thank Rob Lewis for his time at Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and wish him luck with his new adventures in Pennsylvania. We will miss him!

Steamboat Springs Winter Sorts Club is excited to add Trevor “Apple” Mekelburg to the skateboard coaching staff. Trevor grew up in Fort Collins traveling to Winter Park on the weekends, while participating in the Winter Park Competition Center.  He moved to Steamboat in 2013 and currently works at Urbane, where he can assist you in all of your skateboard gear! Trevor has a great amount of skateboard knowledge and experience. He has hosted and assisted in several Urbane events as well as an all women skate contest known as “The Lady Cake Skate date” in Vail, Colorado. Trevor recently lead the Skateboard P.E. classes at Soda Creek and Strawberry Park Elementary Schools.  He is also heavily involved with Skate Church.

“I am excited to bring together the skateboard community with the collaboration between Urbane, Skate Church and Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. My passion is sharing the love of skateboarding with the youth of today.”
