Cross Country

Six SSWSC XC athletes qualified for the USSS Western Elite Group Camp this June. They were selected based on their performances at the 2018 Junior National Championships last March. The athletes included: Noel Keeffe, Waverly Gebhardt, Sadie Cotton, Sven Tate, Wyatt Gebhardt, + Jimmy Colfer. They were six of forty athletes from around the Western United States. The first half of the week contained three challenging tests: the “Agony Hill Climb” in Salt Lake City, a double pole roller ski time trial, and a roller ski agility test.

Waytt Gebhardt took top honors overall, with Noel Keeffe in 2nd, Jimmy Colfer in 12th, and Sven Tate in 15th. For the females, Waverly Gebhardt finished 7th in the overall results and Sadie Cotton was close behind in 9th place.

Alpine

Our U16 and older athletes are enjoying a 3 week trip in Norway! Not only is it an incredible opportunity to get some training on snow, but it is also providing a rare glimpse sans rain of this gorgeous area! Each day, our athletes have three lanes available on the mountain for on-snow training. One is moderate with aggressive terrain and rollers built in, while the other two are steeper with fewer or no obstacles.  Groups have been moving through the venues as appropriate to time on snow and individual need.  Within the team we share all three of the environments up there and it is working wonderfully.

When not training, the athletes are enjoying beaches, incredible waterfall hikes, and glacier views! There is an interesting way to maintain snow in Norway; they have farmed and “wrapped” parts of the glacier in giant white tarps to help maintain great conditions!  They will pull snow from these stashes as necessary in order to maintain a great surface!

Our athletes are both learning important on-snow skills as well as learning life lessons off the snow, helping to shape them into better individuals!

Cycling

The cycling programs are in full swing, and athletes are working on their skills, endurance, and fun on the trails! This week, groups worked on crossing and jumping box ramps, maneuvering through the turns of the bike park, and navigating the trails on Spring Creek and Emerald Mountain!

Anya shows that true mountain bikers LOVE their dirt!
