Freestyle

The first stop on the Nor-Am tour went off with a bang last weekend in Val St Come, Que Bec, Canada.

It was the best weather I have ever experienced in QueBec which allowed for a great event to take place.

The team hit the ground running giving it their all in the official training and throughout the weekend.

Singles Results

Avital Shimko - 6th place
Trudy Mickel - 15th
Maggie Ryan - 19th
Spencer Belsky - 44th

Duals Results
Avital Shimko - 1st place
Trudy Mickel -5th
Spencer Belsky -43rd

Unfortunately Maggie Ryan has had on going knee issues through the season which has forced her to take the next 6 weeks off from on snow training to complete a full recovery regime. We wish Maggie all the best for a speedy recovery.

Please see below photos from AUSMSA.

Next stop is Killington, Vermont this weekend.

Freestyle U15

The U15 mogul skiers were back in action this past week-end with an RQS competition on Bashor Bowl. Tucked right to skiers left of the halfpipe, the two air course shaped up nicely with big bumps and bigger airs. Team Steam put on quite the performance with 5 girls finishing in the top 10!

Carina Creamer came in 2nd over all and 2nd in her age group. Ella Walker came in 3rd overall and 3rd in her age group. Anabel Ayad was 4th overall and 1st in her age group. Ava Rose was 5th overall and Kaelyn Radway was 7th over all, 2nd in her age group.

Freddie Mickel was the top finisher for boys, finishing 4th overall and 3rd in his age group.

The U15 Mogul Skiers have been challenging themselves all winter with the steep course and big jumps on Howelsen Hill. The training all paid off at their first competition of the season at A-Basin last week-end. They put in a great showing! Despite having limited training on a two air course, they all wowed the judges with their consistent skiing and good jumping.

Freddie Mickel finished 2nd overall with a thrilling run with big airs and clean turns. Carina Creamer also finished 2nd overall, being one of the only skiers in the whole field to throw two double airs. Ella Walker wowed the crowd with a beautiful 360, finishing 5th overall. Anabel Ayad came back from a fall first run to lay one down and finish 8th overall.  Misha Jenson skied his best of the season, ripping four top to bottom runs, proving his hard work this season is really making a difference! Katie Mcglaflin kept her composure and had two fantastic runs, even throwing her first double air in competition. Lila Boniface stepped it up with a smooth performance and her best airs of the season.

The competition season continues this week-end with athletes from all over CO coming to Steamboat. The course on Bashor is looking good and our athletes are psyched to keep pushing their limits!

Alpine

Steamboat played host to U14 and U16 Regional Sync Cup races this weekend. The first race was a slalom under the lights Saturday night at Howelsen Hill. Soft snow and tricky course sets resulted in a quite a few racers not completing the courses. Steamboat put 5 skiers in the top 10. Steamboat was led by Bode Flanigan in 2nd place, James Lahrman in 4th place, Marat Washburn in 5th place, Pete Dohr in 6th place, and Tyler Thomas in 10th place.

The second of the 2 races was a Giant Slalom race contested at the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation’s SSWSC All Out Training Venue. The snow was much firmer than the previous day, but it still created some tricky race conditions. The Steamboat skiers had a phenomenal showing taking the top 7 spots for U16 and U14 racers. Steamboat was led by Cole Gedeon 1st place (U16), Bode Flanigan 2nd place, Nicholas Unkovskoy 3rd place, Peter Dohr 4th place, Phenix Tatge 5th Place, Marat Washburn 6th place, Leo Davies 7th place, Kai Mcguffin 9th place, James Lahrman 10th place, and Jordan Simon 12th place.

The ladies Sync Cup races this weekend were contested in Vail. In the Giant Slalom race Saturday Helenka Ostaszewski led the way for the Steamboat ladies in 6th place. She was followed by teammate Jaelie Hovey in 10th place, 3rd fastest second run. Ryli Adrian was 13th place. In the slalom race on Sunday Helenka Ostaszewski was 10th place and Ryli Adrian was 11th place.

As per the team agreement, anytime the Steamboat skiers take the top 5 placings at a race they get cake. This is the third time this season that the Steamboat U16 racers have taken the top 5 placings at a race. The next races for the U16’s are 2 Giant Slalom races at Winter Park, February 15-16.

U6’s enjoyed a great final day in Session 1 with Coach Zack!
