Cycling

The cycling program is cruising right along and loving the new trails on Emerald! Next week is the last week of Youth Cycling Group, the Wednesday program that has the largest participation. The kids have been rotating through different trails each week and were excited for the comeback of the ever popular “Ride to Slide” day. That day consists of riding Emerald up to the top of Howelsen Hill, ditching the bikes and taking a ride down the Alpine Slide then back up to ride Lower NPR. A kid’s dream!

SSWSC also offers One Day Clinics on a variety of topics. Check out the brochure here!

It’s a Girls Thing is crushing the trails around Steamboat. They are improving their skills, descending like pros and climbing like Quintana all while   wearing tutus, because…”why not!”

For those of you that have watched the Town Challenge Mountain Bike Races, you will see a lot of SSWSC jerseys in the mix. We have quite of few of young racers in the divisions. We are planning on taking a group of SSWSC athletes to Winter Park on July 30 to compete in the Colorado Freeride Festival Cross Country Event.

On Monday, July 11 the SSWSC High School MTB Team had a pizza party and answered questions to any new riders interested in the Colorado High School Mountain Bike League. If you know of a high school student that might be interested, please contact Blair Seymour at [email protected].

Youth Mountain Bikers enjoy a ride on Emerald on Wednesday.

Jen’s group made it to the top of the Alpine Slide!

This summer the U 16’s and U 19’s have been giving a tremendous effort in dry land. Through creative workouts designed by their coaches, the kids have really been motivated to give their best effort on a daily basis. This past week the U 19’s partook in the Water Bucket Challenge where they carried 128 gallons of water up a mile long hill! Even during this challenging workout the kids all ended the session with smiles on their faces. We as a coaching staff are looking forward to the rest of the summer conditioning with these athletes!
