Youth Mountain Bike

Youth Mountain Bike program started officially 3 years ago with 40 kids and 6-7 coaches. We have grown to more than 140 kids and 20 coaches! The program is designed to teach youth ages 7-14 the basic skills of mountain biking in a fun, peer-filled environment. Groups are divided by age, ability and gender. The only prerequisite for the program is solid two wheeled riding on pavement. Helmets, gear bike with hand brakes, spare tube, water and a snack are required. Highly recommended are: full finger gloves, Camelbak or similar hydration device, & sunglasses.
Cycling Program
The SSWSC Cycling Team began in the summer of 2004 with only 7 kids ages 13-18. The SSWSC Cycling Program divides its energy into two major ways aimed at one common goal; that is "to provide an opportuntiy for youth to experience success through the participation in cycling related activities."

The first focus of the SSWSC Cycling Program is to provide the best programs for youth to get involved. Firstly, the Development Team is geared toward youth ages 11-15 who have never raced bicycles competitively. The Development Team teaches kids foundational skills in bicycle maintenence, bike handling and road and mountain bike training and racing. Secondly, the SSWSC Cycling Program has a more advanced team geared toward athletes ages 15-18. The Carbon Team stresses more advanced techniques of training and racing. (Please see Program Information link)
The second major focus of the SSWSC Cycling Program is to host a Road Race Training Series (including Time Trials and Criterium Races) that alternates Wednesdays from the local Town Challenge Series. Anyone ages 18 and up can join the SSWSC Cycling Program as a Steel Member. As a Steel Member you can participate in the SSWSC Cycling Program Road Race Training Series and participation fees subsidize program fees for the youth programs.
