Travel Signups and Deadlines

Please follow the travel deadlines to sign up for travel with the team. Also, make sure you are signing up for the correct things. We use those signup sheets to book lodging, reserve vans and make other travel arrangements. When you sign up and then dont go, it passes on costs to everyone else because we probably booked something that you are now not using. The deadlines are important for the same reason, we book blocks of rooms ahead of time and then release or add rooms based on the signup sheets. If you come to us at the last minute asking to add your name to the list, it creates needless headaches for our travel coordinator and can end up costing more money than if you signed up on time in the first place. We dont have many events left, so please check your calendars and make sure you are signing up for event correctly and on-time.

Wax at Snowboard Races

A well-tuned board can make a big difference in any snowboard event, but its especially true in the "speed" events (SBX, GS and SL). In the past, Jon has bought and maintained his own wax kit and supplies for events. As our numbers of competitive riders has increased over the years, its increasingly costly for Jon to keep doing this on his own. So here are a couple of things in regards to waxing at events.

1. Wax and overlays accomplish very little at the USASA level. Expensive, high-end overlays are not very effective on kids boards. If a board hasnt been tuned in weeks, overlays or tuning at the top of the course are not very effective. Jon and the coaching staff will continue to do everything they can to teach kids good technique (including board tuning and maintainence). They will do everythingand to ensure that the kids equipment is ready to go at events. But its also important that our riders dont become too dependant on wax and think its going to automatically make them faster. Good race technique far outweighs any wax we can put on.

2. We have invested in a pretty complete wax kit for use at all SSWSC events. This kit contains everything we need to make sure that kid's boards are as dialed in as possible. In order to offset the costs of our team kit, we'll need to add a nominal charge for board waxing and tuning at "speed" events. So, if you see an additional $5 on your travel bill for GS, SL or SBX events- thats what its for. Please let Jon know if you have any questions about the SSWSC SNB Team Wax kit.
